I searched the boards and couldn't find anything related to this. I originally obtained my RN license with California though examination summer of 2010 including sharing my fingerprints through Livescan. When submitted my license renewal online through BreEze in 2020 the portion mentioning fingerprint requirements stated that as long as they were obtained after January 2009 my fingerprinting requirement was met. After renewing and paying my fees, I found the FAQ section that mentioned that the fingerprinting requirement was only met if they were obtained after January 2014. After many phone calls and 1x email to the board over a holiday weekend while recovering from surgery 2 weeks before my license was set to expire I received the answer that the BreEze information is currently incorrect and that I would need to be re-fingerprinted as my fingerprints were obtained before 2014. You also must also contact the board through their website https://www.dca.ca.gov/webapps/rn/requests.php so someone can verify that you have submitted your application already BEFORE uploading your Livescan (as I have learned if the order is reversed your livescan will be rejected and you must resubmit) and they will email the Livescan form to you. However, the form they sent me was identical to this one (just make sure to print 3 copies) but that may change in the future: https://certifixlivescan.com/livescan-forms/california-live-scan-form-registered-nurse-license.pdf
The person I was able to speak to on the phone, *****, was very nice and helpful. The phone number I was able to reach her on when I called at 8:10am with no hold time was (916) 515-5278. She also assured me that as long as the Livescan form was received before the day my license was set to expire, even if it took longer for the fingerprints to be processed that my license would still be able to be renewed.

THANK YOU. Posting this was very generous because my head is spinning with conflicting information. This helps. So I am supposed to submit my application to renew first with a "no" for completing the fingerprint requirement, then submit the Livescan paper after? And, did you fax the LIvescan form? I cannot see a place on BREEZE where you can upload the Livescan form. Thank you

I would recommend completing fingerprinting first as long as you have an active license as the FAQ says you can complete the fingerprint requirement at any time not just at renewal. However, I did mine in reverse because I was unaware of the requirement. Also you're completely welcome. I was confused that no one else had written anything about it yet. I emailed my completed livescan form to [email protected] & requested confirmation of receipt which they did email me back to confirm receipt but I also uploaded it into my breeze account and would have also faxed it if I hadn't heard back. Uploading into account = sign in, License Activities => Manage your license information => drop down menu under RN license => Submit Additional Documents.
Veganurse, I spoke to ***** at the number you provided and it helped a lot. I answered my own question as well, so, for others' reference...she advised completing the fingerprint requirement before renewing. You request the Livescan paperwork from the BON (which was identical to the one posted above), they email it to you, then you fax the completed form to the number listed on the form itself. If you do that, you have fulfilled your obligation and can say that you are compliant with the fingerprint requirement. You do NOT need any further feedback or clearance. Also, 2014 is the cutoff; if your last Livescan was before that time, you need to repeat it.
ETA: this is for people who already have licenses in California. If you are getting a new license, the process may be different, and I recommend contacting the board at the number Veganurse listed above.

When did this change? I got licensed and livescan fingerprinted in 2013 and have renewed 3 times since then with no issue. I’m due to renew April 2020 and when reading the FAQ I saw the same thing about before 2014 so that includes me. Why now?

no idea. not guess is because they can which seems to be the reason behind many of their decisions. I had a lot if other things going on so I waited until 2 weeks before my license expiration date to find out. I do know of a nurse who just checked the box that they were current with their fingerprint requirement even though they weren't and their license still got renewed. Risky endeavour though.

I just renewed my license with no problem and thought the fingerprint requirement was a one and done deal. What did I miss?

SO to CONFIRM... im currently active status in CA...
I should get my fingerprints done FIRST then apply for renewal and check off "YES" as compliant and then upload my livescan form... correct?

Veganurse do you have any other info? Like you I saw the 2009 date and then thus year its telling me because I live outside CA I have to refingerprint on Breeze DCA. The 2 sites have not been consistent. Are they disciplining people for this? I sure hope not. The sites should be consistent.

Im freaking out because I didn't realize that a new live Scan was required for renewal and my license expires on 6/30/21. Requested for a live Scan form and said it would be delivered in 7 days?! I'm hoping I can use the form above to fill out and submit and get the live Scan printing done before then...

OMG this post is so helpful because what was stated on the website had me very confused. My initial license was issued in 2015 but has been in inactive status since 2017. Recently decided to renew since many remote positions require CA licensure now. Glad I don’t have to go through that process again.
