I am currently in my first semester of college doing my pre-reqs. I have been trying for the longest time to get a job in a hospital as a transporter or anything that does not require prior experience. I have my bls and I am a certified lifeguard. I was wondering what can I do to get a job? This is a major hospital with several branches. Would it be worth it to go to the HR and ask them about the positions? Does anyone who works in the system have any advice? I recently found a position for an operating room assistant that only require bls and a diploma. I would love to have that job. I just want to get started working in a hospital and begin my career.
My father is a RN in the ICU at Cleveland Clinic in Florida, is there anyone who he could talk to to get me in there?

Well, the may be a dumb question on my part, but have you been applying for jobs at the hospital? You can't find out if you're qualified or not until you try.
In my experience, you can try to contact HR but many hospitals do everything online and they might just redirect you to the website to apply.
Whats your resume look like? Is it strong? How about your cover letter?
Yes I have applied to every position I can find. As for my resume its the best I can do for now. I have no prior work experience, but I do have a lot of volunteer experience and a few awards that I've gotten over the years, and skills that I have. I've never made a cover letter. What is the purpose of it?
And thats what I figured will happen if I went to HR
A cover letter is basically a letter that highlights what skills you would bring to the position and why they should hire you (without you saying "You should hit me because..."). Think about it as like a sales pitch and you are the product.
I see, I included that with my resume. Should I separate it onto a cover letter?
Yes. Google "resume without work experience" and see if there might be advice out there do how you might format your resume without it directly going into the trash when HR receives it.
You said you are a lifeguard. Have you worked as a LG at all? Some hospitals have pools/health centers that hire lifeguards. The experience and skills of being a lifeguard can translate to some positions. I'm an LGI and I always give kids that advice when they take a class with me.
