Should I take it as a good sign that I recieved the financial aid packet, or is it standard protocol that all applicants recieve one? Thanks in advance!!!!
Students must be thankful for this god-given blessing-- financial aid. It will help them to cope better for their studies. Unfortunately for anyone wishing to get a higher education, the costs of college have increased above the rate of inflation and thus college students must secure some sort of financial aid. Currently, the biggest source of college aid is through a FAFSA - and federal loans are the bulk of tuition assistance, although it leads many students to begin their careers in debt. Pell Grants help, but the funding for them is likely to start drying up - and you can't use payday loans to fund a college education. Until colleges (many of them state institutions) decide to shore up their expenses and pass the savings onto students (as they should) it's the students that will bear the brunt of mismanagement.
I am glad I am not the only person wondering. I sent in my information on Dec 3, so I may be in the next group:( But I am trying to be positive. and waiting patiently. I thought the next open house was March 20, not March 6. And yes my heart skipped probably two beats when I saw the envelope. Good luck to you. Do you know how many applicants that is accepted at a time?
Yes, Vandy does send that Financial Aid packet out to all applicants. Last year I found out I was accepted one week after the Info Session, so hang in there!
As for the actual financial aid, everyone is eligible for Grad Plus Loans which are not income-dependent, but you must have a good credit rating to qualify. Then of course there are Federal Sub and Unsub Loans. There will be a detailed presentation on Fin Aid at the weekend info session and you will be given written info, too, so you won't have to try to remember all the details after you get back home.
Best of Luck!

Hey all,
I have been in contact with one of the specialty admissions directors so I can offer some clarification. EVERYONE who applied to the program received a financial aid packet (I bet that I wasn't the only one who felt my heart beat out of its chest when I saw a huge envelop in my mailbox!). Also, if you applied before the December 1st priority deadline, you will be hearing back in late February or the first week of March. The 4-6 week comment refers only to those who applied after the deadline. So good luck to all and keep your minds distracted for the next 2 weeks!
