I've been a quiet follower for quite sometime now. I've read the stories of success, victories and failures of NCLEX. I promised myself that I would tell of my success when I pass NCLEX. A little bit of me. I graduated nursing school in 2015. 1st attempt I failed at 255q, ran out of time, studied using ATI, Saunders and UWORLD. My 2nd attempt I failed at 158q, with UWORLD and NCSBN. My 3rd attempt failed at 165q, with RN Mastery, Lacharity, UWORLD. After my 3rd failed attempt I was lost, depressed, I had so much doubt that being a nurse was not even an option at this point. My wife then reminded me why I chose nursing and how I love working with people. With the words of encouragement from my wife and kids, I gave myself another chance. I changed my mindset and attitude about studying. I had a different plan on how to approach my 4th attempt.
The 4th time around, I used a tutor by the name of Justine Buick, who is based out in Boston. She does online tutoring as well as one-on-one. She helped me utilize strategies to answer NCLEX type questions. Along with Justine, I also used TootRN on youtube and IG for practice question. Justine and TootRN had similar strategies, so I incorporated both strategies. I also did the Hurst Live review online. Hurst Review helped me understand content in a simpler way. For content review, I focused on my weakest areas which where OB/Peds. Hurst has condensed areas for these sections which made it easier for me. For practice questions, I didn't use UWORLD this time around, but instead used RN Mastery and RN Lippincott. I did 75 questions everyday for 2 months, occasionally 100q a day. I completed a little over 3000q before NCLEX. It was my first time using RN Lippincott qbank. All I can say is that their questions are hard, probably comparable to UWORLD. This time I had my strategies down to a T, making sure I did not add anything else to help me answer questions.
It's test day 3/16/2018 at 8am. I said a prayer, gathered my thoughts. I went in at 8am, came out 2 hours later finishing with 75q. 27 SATAs, 2 EKG, 1 Exhibit, 1 Math, 2 Pharm, Delegation UAP, Infection control, and the rest were priority questions (follow up, what would the nursing student do or needs correction, immediate, and who should be referred to a social worker). I felt really confident after leaving the test center. Knowing my content was better this time around, answering the questions felt easier.
I did not do the PVT trick or quick result because I did not want anxiety to take over and stress me out. I stayed calm until I got my result through the mail. The Hawaii board of nursing sends out results 5-6 days after the test. So I go and check my mail 5 days after my test. I see the dreaded envelop from the BON. My heart is pounding, thinking what if I failed again. I opened the envelop and unravel my results. In big words HAS PASSED. I am finally a Registered Nurse!!
Just some words of encouragement for those who are taking it for the first time or repeat test takers. You can do it. Have faith and believe in yourself. IT IS POSSIBLE TO PASS NCLEX. Be apart of that NCLEX success and get that RN title which you solely worked hard for.
If you have any questions about how I studied or want to know more about the material I used to study, go ahead comment. I will not be able to get PM because I have not made 15 quality post yet. I just recently changed my username. I am more than happy to help in any way I can.
Aloha!!

Thank u for your wonderful testimony. I just failed my Psych-tech State Board (Psychiatric Technician) for the third time and I'm still trying to cope with it. I know that God hasn't abandoned me and I will shame the devil and get my victory in Jesus name. Thank u for not giving up and sharing your success story and keeping Jesus first. It has lit up the fire in me to fight for what I've worked hard for.
