Finally Here 12 MONTH LPN PROGRAM IN DETROIT

Published

DMC and Oakland community college is sponsoring a short term 12 month LPN program through the michigan works agency no more driving to Toledo...classes have already started. Just thought I would spread the word!

I am thinking about checking out this program. Does anyone know if they accept people with previous healthcare experience? (I'm a medical assistant). I am currently taking pre reqs at WCCCD, but I don't think my gpa will be good enough to apply for the rn program this year. What are the options for lpn to rn programs, and how long are the programs usually? Any help would be great! Thanks, Melissa

I appreciate that, thanks. On a much lighter note, looks like you have already started the program? How do you like it so far. I'm all set to start it but since its during the day, I can't quit my job, bills and all. I was hoping that they would start an evening program.

I love it... what keeps me going is knowing that I will be finish with this part of my schooling in November. Its very accelerated but its worth it. I truly understand you on the whole afternoon class situation. When I was working a 9 to 5 I never could attend nursing school for the simple fact that most clinicals are during the day. When I got laid off I said well one good thing came out of this I can now attend school. LOL You should really look into this program because they do have afternoon clinicals that start at 3pm and maybe you could rotate ur schedule around that. I dont know if thats feasible for you or not. What school are you looking to attend?

Wow, thats great, november will be here before you know. Once you graduate, there are tons of jobs out there for lpn jobs. You will be fine. Im currently attending hfcc, have one more class before I graduate with my degree in cis, then I will continue with my prereqs for nursing. According to hfcc, I only need a&p 1 and 2, and pysch as far as pre reqs. I pretty much have everything else. Thanks for the info re the 3pm shifts but I work 3 days now but dont get off til 4:30, i could prolly get off at 3 but I would need to be at school by 3 so that probably wouldnt work either.

I guess I have some decisions to make but I just dont want to give up my current position as I work part time and get full time free benefits.

If you don't mind, I'd like to continue talking to you about it.

you can email me at [email protected], if youd like, thanks.

I went to the informational meeting today and I am on my way...thanks so much for that information. I have to go back tomorrow and I can;t wait to see when the next class actually starts.

msrenee0320,

Are you talking about the school in detroit. I am going to the information meeting on Monday.. Can't wait to find out what is needed to get into the program. I am here so many different things. Where did you go to your information meeting?

Now I called the number on Fort Street and they sent me to the informational meeting on 707 Milwaukee...I went yesterday and today. They don;t give you alot of information this is primarily instructions on how to get the funds to go to school for free. I will keep you updated on my process because i told the lady that I am to start school in toledo on april 7th and she told me not to go then she gave me instructions on what I need to do. I have a application here about 5 pages that needs to be completed as well as other documents to turn in.

Are their any thing else you have to do beside the application? How long does it take before you know if you are approved? I know I sound like a broken record but for some reason I thought you have to be a detroit resident... but I did speak to someone at the office and she said that isn't so... you must live in michigan. Is that ture? Are you going to go to toledo? Or are you going to try and get into this program? Sorry to ask all these questions; but I in that situation. Should I go to toledo or try to get in to the program in detroit. I would like to get in the program in detroit instead of driving to toledo. It all depends on how hard it is to get in. You said you went back the next day; is it a two day informational meeting?

How much is PSI, I thought about it as well, because I need an evening LPN program.

I also attended the information meeting at 707 milwaukee. There was no information stated about the LPN program at all, only about the resources offered at Michigan Works. My next orientation meeting is April 24th. I guess I have to wait until then to find out about the LPN program.

Is there anyone who attended orientation at the Fort St. Location and if so please tell me the information you received if any about the LPN program.

I attended the orientation on fort street. The one stop centers orientations consist of telling you about the financial resources available. The Nursing school is on the 4th floor at 455 fort street. There is a receptionist in the front that can tell you everything you need to know if you aren't getting info from the one stops. Again they basically prepare and approve u for your grant money. After that step is completed ur career coach will ask you what career you are interested in... you tell him nursing. From then your paper work will be transferred to the 4th floor which is the nursing school. So its really about how fast you complete your paper work with the one stop. Once thats completed stay on top of your career coach..My career coach told me he was going to put out a stalker complaint:coollook: because I made my face known to him...he knew me by name and it paid off. As of now there is no waiting list. So anyone interested turn in your paper work as soon as possible. Fyi you can go to any one stop closest to you.

Thanks Jackyo for the info. I am going to go to Fort street to see if I can get things moving alot faster. As I stated above my next orientation is April 24th and to me that is too long.

The person over at 707 Milwaukee stated that there is a wait list for the LPN program.

Specializes in I am a mutt. Master of nothing :).

Does anyone know if they are looking for instructors for the Detroit LPN program? Any contact information???

Thanks!!
