I want to file my application at the medical city. I am a June 2008 board passer. I have worked as a volunteer nurse for a private hospital in our province for five months without pay. I am currently working as a staff nurse in another tertiary hospital now but with a 100 bed capacity. I am confuse whether to push through with my desire to apply at medical city thus having the chance to work in a bigger hospital or just stay here in the province and continue my work as a staff nurse. I graduated from one of the best nursing schools in Manila and and I feel so disappointed to be just working in our province. I need enlightenment. Thanks

based on what you said, i assume that you have not yet filed an application at the medical city. well, as a tmc staff, i really assure you that the experience you will get in this hospital is way above your expectations specially if you came from a provincial / government hospitals. it's like crossing 2 different worlds. now, if you're afraid that you will get idle for sometime during the application up to the hiring process, you can simply file at least a month of vacation leave in your current work if you're allowed to, should you qualify for the nursing training adaptive program they conduct for the entrance exam passer. after that, you can go back to your work while waiting to get hired. but bear in mind, the entire process will take you a year at most. goodluck! :wink2:

hi!

I got a message from medical city that I am scheduled for an interview for the staff nurse position for their wellness section. I am interested but I am not familiar with the "wellness section" though I search the TMC site I am not sure what it is.

If anyone here have informations please post them.

Thank you all!:redpinkhe

the wellness section is an area that caters to people availing the executive checkups e.g. cardiopulmonary workups, cholesterol checkups, endo exam, etc. (which are on the tmc website). these are series of diagnostic procedures routinely availed by well people to check their physical wellness or those who are at the time undergoing certain therapies to determine its effectiveness. so the only responsibility of the nurse here is to assist the clients while they undergo the routinary procedures and to ensure these people get the best care there is :D.

thank you for that info!

I'm confused though, does it mean that my experince would be like I am having my duty in a clinic? What about experinces and trainings that I would acquire? Will it help me in terms of professional growth? You've describe it like there's nothing much to do. Only assist? What about medications, charting, special areas, are there any?

Sorry if I thow so many questions. I just want to have an idea before taking this position. Thank you in advance!

well, honestly, wellness section is somehow different from being into the bedside practice / medical floors. most of the time, less medications are involved since you will be dealing with well people. as to experience, the practice is somehow routinary but one can't say that it's not challenging. It is, as one of my co-trainee has been assigned to it. well, as to recommendation, if you are really decided to enter any areas of nursing practice, then this is one good start. But if you're targeting a specific area, well, perhaps, you should prepare yourself for more time.

take note that in special areas (delivery suite, OR suite, ICU, NICU, E.R.) special trainings are still necessary. most of the time, nurses from floors are the ones being taken here after years of practice since these areas are for highly skilled. however, in OR / DR and NICU, newly hired are being welcomed since similar to wellness area, once you get acquianted to it, it is nothing but a routinary path. also, for new comers, you really can't pick where you will be put in. you're already lucky to have been offered actually. :D

Thank you cyberfanatic!!! I appreciate your reply, very informative.

If I choose to become part of wellness, do I have the opportunity/chance to transfer to the floor? How long do I need to wait? Do I need to be a regular employee first?

I apologize for bugging you with these questions. The thing is I also applied at St. Luke's- Global City and I am now in the process of completing my medical exams, requirements and may start the training, but as you probably heard the hospital will not be open till October of next year. I just want to make sure that I am making the right decission of chosing TMC over SLMC because I know once I signed a contract that's it, there's no backing out.

Thank you for being patient with my quiries. I really appreciate you taking time to answer them. Have a nice day and Godbless! :loveya:

as to changeling of floor assignment / designated areas, yearly, there is a reorganization that is followed (this is in accordance to the set standards of the JCI on which TMC is an accreditted member). so if you have stayed in that area for a year, then you are entitled for a change of floor / area so as to accomodate growth and development in terms of skills. also, you can personally request shift of floor assignment either to the HR department or NSO then if by some means, some floors is in shortage of staff, then your request may be accomodated. however, to be able to do that, you need to be a regular employee already (but hey, what is 6 months anyway?).

no problem w/ that! :wink2:

hi! im kinda new here.. i just read your posts... juz wana ask if tmc is hiring now? i'd like to apply there.. thanks! :wink2:

currently, i don't have any idea whether they are into the process of hiring new nurses but believe me, the turnover of nurses in this hospital is rapid and fast paced. anyway, since i assume you don't have any job to busy yourself with at the moment, it won't hurt if you'll pay the hospital a visit and drop some requirements. who knows, you'll get lucky as well.

to give you a hint, there is an ongoing construction within the medical city extending the 2 building into higher floors. this is their way to further accomodate more people and more cases. by saying so, i believe that somehow, in that building, there will be positions that are to be filled in. good luck!

rinskie, tmc's process of submitting application changed just this month. instead of putting your resume and other credentials to the drop box at the employee's entrance , you now need to go to the hr and log your name, position your applying for, contact # and address at the computer inside.

I went to TMC for my first interview 2 months after I took the "nursing" and psychological exam. Then they sent me a text message to come for the final interview less than a week after the initial interview. And now I'm patiently waiting for the orientation.

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and not dwell on the negative side :)

Hi are u done with the endorsement or what they call the orientation? Thanks!

is there a required board rating in TMC? when i went to there HR i was asked to write my name, school and board rating. then wait for a call. never heard of them ever since
