Final Exam Question.....

OK, here's my deal. I have a 84 % in semester one, my lowest test score was a 72 and my highest was a 96. So the other four exams were in the low to mid eighties. The dreaded Final is on Wednesday afternoon, and I'm really not sure if I'm ready or not. I studied all day Sunday and most of today. I'll probably put four or five more hours in tomorrow. I've heard two differing views on finals. Of course, there is the study days ahead of the final, while pulling some all nighters along the way. I've also heard of people that just glance over the notes and readings for a few hours and come out ok. I need a 55 to pass the class, and a 76 to keep the B. Given my trend of getting 80's, what's the likelihood of totally bombing this thing? Personally, if I cant pull a mid fifties on this exam, then I don't need to be here. At this point, there's no way I could read every chapter again, and basically start over. My strategy is to hit the earlier chapters and the material that I scored a 72 on. The later chapters and lessons are getting an hour or so review.

I was sort of in the same boat. However, I needed a 70 on the final exam in order to make a low, passing B in the class. I made an 81 on the final exam and I calculated my grade to be an 83.1

So you studied only on Fri and Saturday? My take on this: If you do mid 80's work, you should be able to get within ten points either way come finals. A lot of people stress over Finals, but then realize they've retained more knowledge than previously thought. To get in the fifties or sixties would basically reflect that you just didn't get it. Of course, I'm saying this while wondering if I will miss 46 questions on wednesday!

I don't think anyone can predict how you'll do. Just do what you can in the time you have left, and cross your fingers.

I had my med-surg final yesterday. I went away for the weekend fully intending on studying while traveling, I had all my materials with me. We broke down, long story short, I got maybe 2 hours of study time in. Thankfully I had boned up on everything along the way. I scored an 88% on my final. And had I not gotten those 2 hours of study time, it wouldn't have made a difference anyway.

For finals I went over all my notes and power points for the semester; any time I didn't remember something clearly I reviewed it in detail (wikipedia usually gives simple explanations). I focused mainly on very early tests, because the most recent test were still pretty fresh in my mind. I did a few ATI practice questions and some NCLEX practice questions. I made an A. But I had an A average already; I didn't really have to pull up my grade.

I think it is way too late to reread the whole book, or teach yourself everything from the entire semester. That is why you read before your regular Unit tests and before lecture. Besides even if you read 55 chapters how are you going to remember anything pertinent with all of that extraneous information?

My advice...review your semester notes; check on stuff you really don't remember and get some rest the night before the test. Good Luck!

Good news, I kept my B! I have no idea what I made on the Final, but they posted our Final grades online this afternoon. As for the test, most of the information came back to me. In fact, I found that most of the Exam was pretty easy. There were 10-15 questions that I felt very uncertain about. The others weren't bad at all. So the first semester (Fundamentals) is over, now it's on to Med-Surg and OB in August.
