Final... Basically a test that is a final to end you

Published

Not sure how many of you feel. Just had the final from hell at my school. It was like a final insult for the summer from the nursing professors. I am not the only one who feels that way either.

Studied for weeks for this. And come in today and get our butts kicked. I am not sure what kind of message they were trying to portray. Again the book smart people win. And those with common sense are going to lose out, kicked to the curb.

I hear ya!! On my way out the door I asked when the deadline would be to "challenge" test questions. I was informed that didn't "happen" with the final exam. That means our instructors can make up any old answer they want and we have no opportunity to have questions overturned.

That left them free to torture us completely unfettered! It totally sucked.

Did you take the same test as I did? Or talking in general?

For some reason, it seems that often the final comes from the furthest depths of hell. It is a wonder that some people who need the final in order to pass, are able to do so, while those with a decent grade going into the final, come out with a drop to a C. Such is life.

Just talking in general. Different final, different state.

This final was a ton of BS! I don't know what they were trying to prove or what they wanted us to get out of it. Except us to know they hated us. And that they were taking out all their past hurts on us.

NSNA magazine had a great article in their last publication about Horizontal Violence and how it starts in nursing school with teachers being completely nasty to students. That article described how some of the nursing instructors and many of the nurses at the hospital where I have been doing clinicals, treat nursing students.

It's sad. Our instructors are supposed to WANT us to succeed. Not take pleasure in watching us fail.

huh our final was pretty easy. 50% was new material and the rest was comprehensive. I barely even studied and I got an A.

They told us the reason they test comprehensive is because we need to remember the old material for the NCLEX so we better get used to it now.

Well said! It is so true. They invoke so much anger and hatred. When really they want us to go through their "justice" because we deserve it. When in reality when they went through it it was much easier.

Lucky you!

I totally agree! Nurses who studied years ago always say things like "nursing students these days have a lot on their plates...when we were in school we didn't have to learn half of what you all do now...blah blah" if that's the case, why make things even harder? I believe that if you studied hard and had a good grasp of the material throughout the semester, the final is supposed to HELP you, not HURT you! If someone makes let's say solid Bs on all tests prior to the final, there is no reason why less than a B should be made on a final. UGH! Thank God I graduated Saturday...could not wait to be done!

Congrats on graduating! I will be looking for a new nursing school it looks like.
