Feeling UP and DOWN!

Nursing Students General Students

School starts back on monday and I am so excited I could spit! This will be my second semester. I am anxious to get back in the fold, but of course have anxiety about going back. One minute I cannot wait, the next I am terrified at how much things will change this semester.

Last semester my clinical was a nursing home one day a week with clients that couldn't communicate with us. This semester I have 2 clinicals in OB and med surg and I am sure these patients will be quite ready to communicate. I am ready but terrified, then I am ready and not terrified. Not really looking for anything here but needed to get that out as I do not know anyone else that would understand how I am feeling

Specializes in LDRP.

I am really nervous! I have med surg and Peds and our class graduates in December so the expectations are that we are more proficiant and have "some" idea of what we are doing. HA! I feel like an idiot.

GL! YOu are not alone...

Specializes in NICU, High-Risk L&D, IBCLC.

Easier said than done, but try to relax the rest of the weekend! Your feelings are completely normal - I think I was terrified at the start of every new clinical rotation. More than likely you'll find that your fears are completely unfounded.

Good luck!

I know those feelings all too well! I am about to start my eighth and FINAL semester, and I am terrified also. It's normal. Almost everyone feels like this. I am excited about learning new things, about it being my last semester, but then I am worried that I will not be able to keep up.... or I won't do good enough....

The feelings fade (for me anyways) in the first week, after I meet the instructor, get a feeling for the class.

I'm sure you'll feel better once you start. Just enjoy these next two days.

It's my second semester of nursing as well and I'm taking pediatrics and maternal/newborn for my nursing classes, and medical microbiology. I'm not too nervous about starting back because any nervousness I have is overlapped by anticipation, because I can't wait to get this semester underway. I'm going to try way harder than last semester and get straigh A's this semester ;). I got B's without really trying last semester... I got lazy

In our class about half of us are going to peds/OB and the other half to med-surg/psych, and most of my friends are in peds/OB with me, and we'll pretty much all be together because anyone in peds/OB has to take micro, so in all of my classes I'll pretty much be with the same people all of the time, which is kind of cool.

Thanks so much guys. I know/ knew my feelings were common, but it is always nice to hear it again:loveya:

Yes, I know how you feel I also start my second semster on Monday and we have 8 weeks of Maternity nursing and 8 weeks of Peds, I am really excitied, I've even started to read some of my chapters and brush up on my physical assessment techniques and foley caths, but I'm also scared out of my mind, but more than ready for the challenge, I am always excitied to begin a new semster and learn new stuff especially if it has to do with nursing! Good look on your next semester, I'm sure you'll do fine!! Good luck from the class of 2008!
