Feeling Good About NS

I had to take the NET to get in at my school, competition was tight. At age 32 I got in and it's all now really sinking in what I'm about to embark upon.

I am afraid, intimidated a little, anxious but also honored to be going. Nursing, to me is a very honorable and noble profession and to be put in that category is a feeling I've only gotten with the birth of my children and when my husband and I married.

This may sound very corny, but it's how I feel. I know my nerves will settle a little once I'm actually in class (start 8/24). Due to all the horror stories I've heard I had myself worked up pretty good but now am realizing just how special this is. :)

I couldn't agree with you more!!! Well put!

You want to here corny? My eyes actually welled up with tears at least 4 or 5 times at my Spring orientation!:bluecry1:;) I am just so honored that the school has faith I can do this, and I'm 40 so I have waited a long time to get to do this! I tried being a CNA, but it just didn't let me do enough, I want to really get in there and care more totally for my patients, make more of a difference you know? This is the 3rd most exciting thing to happen to me after my kids births and marrying my DH, who is also so proud of me (it's really great!):lol2:

Linz8, you are so right! Nursing IS such an honorable and noble profession. I can't wait to call myself an RN!

Beth, I know exactly how you feel. I am your age and I also waited a VERY long time to get to this point. So many obstacles kept popping up, but once that opportunity opened, I grabbed onto it with both hands. I also tear up when I think about this blessing... and I DO consider it a blessing and an honor. It will be hard, but we will survive and come out with a whole new strength of character and appreciate it so much more. Maybe more importantly, we will come out of this knowing that we can do anything we set our minds to.

GOOD LUCK to all!

Most of us were nervous and scared about starting nursing school. You are not alone in feeling this way. Keep in mind that thousands have been at this same position and made their way through nursing school. Keep an open mind because it's about to be challenged and need ideas and information inserted into it! Stay positive. Don't let the negative comments you hear from others affect you. Make your own judgments about things based on your own experiences. Gossip can be a powerful downer, but only if you let it take that kind of power over you. Have an exciting day on the 24th!

I am 34 and just getting started in nursing school. At first I was afraid I would be the old lady in the class, I do not feel old but I am not 19 anymore. I quickly found out, in the case of my school, they actually prefer older students. The last grad class had a 54 year old male in it. He passed with honors!!!!!!!!!!!

I think a healthy dose of nerves is actually a good thing. It means we are wanting to succeed and most of us are embarking on something long desired. When I went to the school orientation to begin my Gen Eds I welled up a few times. Not because I was feeling overwhelmed, but because I felt at home, like I was where I was always meant to be, heading down the path that was meant for me. It is like the first time you meet "The One" you spend your life with. He/She feels like home. That is how I feel about all this.
