Feel pressured to do 2 people transfer alone

Published

I started working at a local nursing home a week and a half ago. I'm still uncertifited as my test is Friday so I'm classified as a training nurse aid. I'm trying to do everything right and not upset the other NAs or nurses so I don't get fired but I'm feeling pressured to do things wrong. I have 4 patients that are 2 people transfers. While laying people down for the night I was getting the other aid on the hall to help me with those people. All she was helping with was the moving. She kept making comments about how I was going to have to learn to do it on my own since I might not always have someone else around. The nurse kept yelling down at the hall that I was putting the other NA behind by making her help me. I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to drop anyone! I also don't want to get fired because the nurse and NA think I'm not doing my job.

If you are injured, dont assume that you will be taken care of if you are injured.

I agree with that, thus I get the xrays and go to a chiropractor. Result is I get better faster. Workmen's comp Doctors just seem to push medication that it is impossible to take and work.

Where I work, if you transfer a 2 person by yourself, you get a write up or lose your job. Bottom line. Cya.

I will admit that there are some people who are listed as 2 person assists that I feel comfortable transferring alone. I will NOT, however, transfer anyone I don't feel comfortable transferring, nor would I ever recommend anyone else do so.

And I should add that, when I do transfer someone in a way that is not listed in their careplan, I know I take full responsibility for the outcome and that if it went badly, I'd likely lose my job. If someone asks me for help with someone I normally transfer alone, I'm still happy to help them.

As others have noted there are times when a person is listed as a two assist and in actuality the are a one assist. The facility does it to cover their butts. Or in the past they had an issue that bumped them up to a 2 assist and then it was never DC'D.

With that said if the care plan tells me they are a 2 assist I ALWAYS get help PERIOD no exceptions. My resident's safety is more important then the feelings of my coworkers. If they have a problem with that we can discuss it later but they will be helping me transfer my 2 assists as I will be helping them.

I have found that this occurs because therapist doesn't upgrade the info in the ADL book. Thus I go to the therapist to get it upgraded.

If someone falls or gets hurt when you are transferring them improperly, your facility will hang you out to dry.

Your managers, supervising RNs, and coworkers will be more than happy to throw you under the bus.

somthing that requires 2 ppl and you want to do it by yourself is bad and ppl might say you cant do it yourself but if it turly requires 2 ppl than ask or even if you need help
