Fear Of Failing...

Yes, I am perfectionist. But nursing school is seriously stressing me out... Does anyone else have a big fear of failing school, or of getting through and being a terrible nurse, of killing your patients or making huge errors?

I'm getting As in all of my nursing courses. But I'm still so afraid that I'm just not cut out for this.

On the first day of school we got a three hour course on good study habits. It was priceless, but I still believe we should have had another 3 hour course on anxiety management. Although, now that I think about it, I believe I still would be scared outta my mind right now. On thursday we have first "real" clinical day, and I am already flipping. How exactly am I going to instill confidence in my patient that I know what I am doing when I really do not have a clue? bbuuuttt, I think a good bit of anxiety is a good thing. It keeps you on your toes, it makes you pay attention to every little minute detail, and it prevents you from being too sure of yourself, when you shouldn't be. If none of us were nervous, that would be a bad sign.

Good luck!!!

Yes, I have a fear of failing, because I owe so much for student loans, have put forth much time and effort. At my school you can be failed for almost anything it seems. But I will never quit, I am too stubborn.

Im in the same boat! I just took my nu3 midterm today and I left feeling like I failed! I studied my orifice off all week and I still feel like I blew it.....(sigh....)

Hey Johnny Girl!

Keep the faith darlin'!

We student RNs hear you loud and clear. It is tough, tough, tough, and it stinks when you hear that other states have better programs than you (my current dilemma!!!)...................... but you know what??? I have worked my bottom off for 2 years now doing prereqs...............I am now in the nursing program since 1 semester............I went from a 4.0 GPA to being now a steady "B" student.

They are going to have to drag me kicking and screaming out of this program, if they want to fail me!!! I have worked SO hard, as have you, and all of us here.

Having doubts and fears only establishes the fact that you CARE............... and that is what nursing is all about. We CARE about our patients................ we want to help them and make them better................. we are afraid to do wrong or harm.

I have no doubt in my mind that you will make the very best nurse................. as we all will here. Why else would we come and vent together if we didn't have character and ambition.

We can do this...........................together!!!:kiss

I take my hat off to you all...................only WE know what we are going through and the nursing program right now is unbelievably tough.

;)
