I am fortunate to find a NICU that has a very good work environment as a new grad. Each member of the team is respected in their specialty. Physicians consult with nursing, RT, OT, and Speech Therapy on Plan of Care for their patients. I am also in the Midwest.
Is it all "Rainbows and Butterflies"? No, but every job has both good parts and bad parts.

Hello,
I live in CA, the bay area and I work in a level 3 medical NICU. We don't do surgeries. I LOVE my job we have a lot of fun at work. I never feel overworked although we are short staffed at times but we work as a team so you never feel alone or helpless. Also short staffed to a California nurses and short staffed to an east coast nurse is totally different. Basically the assignments to me are pretty nice I'm originally from Florida and we would pray for assignments like this, the ratio and break laws here are a dream. I am still challenged at times as well so it's the best of both worlds. And the pay is unmatched. You should come on over here. We are hiring but for nights only. Good luck!!

I hear your desire to move on .All I can say it is mostly trial and error and your tolerance for certain situations, thick skin and so on.I had my best time at a religious based institution but alas they were bought over by a huge conglomerate and that special consideration and appreciation for nurses went out the window.Hotel style type nursing is not for everyone ,so I wish you mcuh luck and hope you are luckey in your search.
