FAU BSN 2013-Traditional or Accelerated

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Anyone out there that is applying to start the FAU Nursing program in May 2013? I have submitted my application for the accelerated program. It is the only program I am applying for so I am really hoping to receive an acceptance letter! I realize it will be quite some time until we know either way and thought we could get some conversation going among applicants.

Hi All! Just want to join the discussion as I am in the process of applying to FAU as well. What study guides did you use for the Teas?

This is a copy of the letter I received after I submitted my application. THIS is where I saw that we did not have to apply to FAU directly at this time.

"As the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs at the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University, I want to extend a warm greeting to you as an applicant for admission in May 2013. We know that you have many choices when selecting an educational program. Therefore, we are sincerely honored that you have decided to submit an application to our College of Nursing. Our letter is intended to acknowledge your application and provide you with application details.

The Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University is indeed a special place. We have a unique caring-based nursing curriculum widely recognized as representing core values n nursing. We also have one of the most diverse nursing programs in the country. The American Holistic Nurses Certification Corporation, Inc. (AHNCC) also endorses our program, facilitating our graduates’ certification as holistic nurses. These are just a few of the points of distinction at FAU. We hope that you can be part of creating our future.

As you know, the College of Nursing at FAU uses the Nursing Centralized Application System (NursingCAS). Now that you are in the system, please note that the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing does NOT require personal references or an essay statement in the Nursing CAS. You may need to complete those items in application to other programs in the system, but they are not needed for our application.

Since the application process via NursingCAS can be tedious, we suggest that you work on the application a bit at a time, but keep making progress. Applicants are not required to apply to Florida Atlantic University until after an applicant is given a preliminary offer for admission to the College of Nursing.

It is important to keep in mind that applicants are required to complete all of the Florida State University System (SUS) Common Prerequisite Courses for Nursing prior to entering the program. The SUS Common Prerequisite Courses are outlined at the following link (http://nursing.fau.edu/index.php?main=2&nav=534). Only the applications of those students who demonstrate that they will complete all of the common prerequisite coursework by the end of the spring semester of the admission year will be considered for admission.

The admission process for the Nursing Program at FAU is highly competitive. Therefore, it is critical that you have all application materials submitted to the NursingCAS by December 31st. Please note that Nursing CAS must still verify any application materials submitted at or near the application deadline. This may cause a delay in the College of Nursing review. The earlier you complete the application the earlier the review.

If you have additional questions or need assistance, please contact the College of Nursing at [email protected]. Stay positive as you go through the application process. Believe in yourself and your dreams."

Sincerely,

Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs

Hi Everyone! Like many of you I am super nervous. This is the only program I planned on applying to. Looki.g at forums from previous years it looks like most of the accepted students had ridiculously high gpas. My UG is only 3.2 and my prereqs will be 3.75. I scored 99th percentile on TEAS, but I am not sure it is going to be enough with such a competitive program. So I am thinking I should apply to some backup options. Does anyone else who has applied to other schools have recommendations? I want to do a BSN and the shorter the better as my husband and I will be living with family to allow for me not working. I love my family dearly but less time not being able to live on our own is definately a priority.

Hi MrsLucky3

Personally I think you have a very good chance of being accepted with your credentials. I gleaned from the info session that our UG GPA is irrelevant as long as it is above 3.0. I have a 3.2 UG GPA as well and a score in the 99th percentile on the TEAS. I just completed prerequisites and have a 4.0 for those. I retook STATS to get that. ******* Assistant Dean, didn't think I needed to do that to be accepted but I did it anyway. So all that leads me to my opinion that you have a good chance of being accepted. GOOD LUCK to us all :)

Thank you lady_roscoe! Your feedback has definately calmed me down a bit! I have a feeling we are in the longest 2 months of our lives! I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of us!

Hi EF262!

I used the TEAS study guide from ATI (they had it in my school library), on its own, I didn't find it terribly helpful. What really helped was the online tests from ATI (which are a bit pricey), but will give you feedback that tells you exactly what pages of the study guide to review based on what you missed. I am not sure if this has been the case for everyone, but I personally found the actual test to be much easier than any of the practice exams. My best advice is to look everything over, but don't make your self too crazy, breath and have confidence! Best of luck!

MrsLucky3,

Thanks for the feedback...taking the test very soon, and was feeling a bit discouraged until I read your post. Thank you :)

I have applied to the accerated BSN. I scored a 98th percentile on the TEAS V, my undergrad GPA meets requirements (3.65) and on the ranked pre-reqs I have all A's and one B+ in college algebra. I thought I was a strong candidate, but after reading everyone else's posts and scores I'm not so sure!! How confidant are others feeling?? It's really such a long wait to find out if we are accepted!

In reply to Mrs Lucky - I too am feeling really nervous about the application and getting in - I just calculated my science GPA and with the one 3credit class that was a B+ my average is a 3.888 - if they counted Chemistry would be a 3.9. I'm not sure why that's not used as review criteria. Given your scores I just can't imagine that you won't get in!!! Look forward to hearing the good news when you receive it!!

Falmouth,

I think your numbers are pretty darn good! Chemistry is not counted because FAU pre-nursing undergrads do not have that course completed until the spring semester. Good luck to us all! There are not too many of us posting on here compared to last year, so maybe there is a smaller applicant pool ;) I really hope they get decisions out way before March 31st!

Hi guys! I applied to FAU as well (traditional program)..and Im already goin crazy! Lol...cant believe we still have to wait over a month to get an answer :( ...good luck to all of you! Hopefully we will all get in! :)

@ lady_roscoe - I noticed that there are less of us posting compared to last year too! I hope you are right and it means that there are fewer applicants this year. I was wondering if this is the first year the school is using the TEAS V exam for the admission process? I noticed in conversations from the previous posts they were talking about scores on the HESI. I was just curious. Also in previous years they mentioned getting their acceptance letters by the end of Feb!! That sure would be better than waiting all the way until the end of March :( Good Luck to everyone!!!
