FAU 2014 ABSN applicants

Published

I haven't seen a thread directed at applicants for this application cycle, so I figured I'd start one! Just one month left until applications open. Who's ready? :) I figure we can meet here to discuss any questions or issues with applications, provide support and feedback to fellow applicants, as well as introduce ourselves as potential future classmates! Communication is, after all, critical for all nurses.

I actually have a question to start us off. The pre-requisites listed for the program mention "College Algebra or equivalent" for science GPA calculations. In my case, I took a few more advanced mathematics courses for my degree, and I have a better grade in Calculus than I do in College Algebra. I can only chalk it up to it being my first semester in college. Does anyone know if they will count my Calc grade instead? It means the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 for my science GPA.

Thanks! I will also buy the ones that I deem necessary.

Hi!

Do we need to rent all the books that are listed in our syllabus? I thought the ATI website was giving us all the books we need?

And does anyone have their schedule yet? I'm still waiting to be enrolled in courses!

Everyone I've talked to has their schedules. You have to check MyFAU under Self Service > Registration. As for the books, the ATI books are completely separate than the textbooks for our classes. The ATI books are used to prepare for the NCLEX, while our textbooks are used for each class. Two completely different sets. Check the syllabi for the books you will need.

Yeah I checked under registration and it says I am currently not enrolled in any courses. It does give me all my syllabi for each class though so I'm assuming the times given on the syllabi is when I have class. I will have to call.

Well, the labs are the only thing that vary, so those are the only times you are waiting on. I would call, since most people I have talked to have theirs, or had holds that may have held up their registration.

Has anyone else attended FAU's orientation? Because I had a hold and they told me I had to attend FAU orientation and nursing even though they had told me otherwise before our nursing orientation.

I got my answer. Only the traditional program has to attend both orientations since we are undergraduates.

Specializes in Primary Care and ICU.

Ijust wanted to wish you guys luck. I really enjoy FAU and my experience with them has been positive. I did the RN-BSN program and am currently in the BSN-DNP program AGNP. Good luck!

Hello :) I had a question has anyone recieved any information about the shirt and id tag that was bought on orientation day? I turned in my money like two weeks after to the office so I didnt get any further information about it.

The community polos have not arrived yet, and I assume the same goes for the ID tag. We will likely receive more information about it next week. :)

Ohh ok thank you so much for always answering :)

I don't know if this thread is still active but if anyone gets to see this: hello! Starting Fall 2014, I will be a sophomore and I'm going to apply for the nursing program. I know this is for the accelerated track and I'm probably going to go with the traditional track, but I have a few questions for those who got accepted. Did any of you have previous working experience at a hospital or just some sort of clinical experience in general? Does having it sort of boost your chances of getting in? Needless to say, I don't have that kind of experience but I do work... Unfortunately, my work doesn't exactly relate to nursing whatsoever.

I went through the this topic and I was surprised to see users who didn't receive interview invites despite having fantastic GPAs and TEAS scores. I know its still too early to be worrying about applications but I am.
