FAU 2014 ABSN applicants

Published

I haven't seen a thread directed at applicants for this application cycle, so I figured I'd start one! Just one month left until applications open. Who's ready? :) I figure we can meet here to discuss any questions or issues with applications, provide support and feedback to fellow applicants, as well as introduce ourselves as potential future classmates! Communication is, after all, critical for all nurses.

I actually have a question to start us off. The pre-requisites listed for the program mention "College Algebra or equivalent" for science GPA calculations. In my case, I took a few more advanced mathematics courses for my degree, and I have a better grade in Calculus than I do in College Algebra. I can only chalk it up to it being my first semester in college. Does anyone know if they will count my Calc grade instead? It means the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 for my science GPA.

I'm always glad to help! It's not a problem at all.

I am not registered as of yet, but I am glad to hear things are underway.

As as for the student oath and affirmation form, I never received a reply from Colleen. Has anyone else heard if this is required upon entering the program? Or annually beginning next year (this seems more likely)?

I am in the Traditional Track, so I assume that they will be doing schedules for Accelerated Program today or tomorrow!

Thanks Megs! :)

FYI, the group on Blackboard is up!

Has anyone recieved their uniforms yet? Any advice on how the sizing runs would be greatly appreciated :)

Hey MrsLucky, I would agree. I'm usually between med. and large in clothes and I ordered medium top and large bottoms. Both are a little on the loose side. I do wonder if I should have tried on a size down but I'm very happy with them. I rather a little too big than on the small side!

Oh, and I was agreeing to the statement of how they run big :-P

Is anyone having trouble opening the syllabus for NUR 3115?

edit: I had to download it and open it to be able to see it. I'll leave this info here in case anyone else runs into this issue (I believe it was related to the file size).

Thank you Vicbum! That is super helpful... The size chart puts me right between sizes and I was not sure if I should go up or down.

Where do you buy textbooks at a good price? I am looking on ebay at International editions and I am not very comfortable. Any suggestions? The new textbooks on amazon are not very different in price from used ones...Thanks for suggestions...

Hey Daniela. Did you see my post on the Facebook group? I used Chegg.com. They were cheaper than amazon and bookbyte. :) The only one they don't have in stock is the Florence Nightingale book, which I purchased through amazon instead.

Hey Lynsey,

I presuppose you have rented them...they are really cheap if you rent them, true...I have no experience with rented books. Do they cover the length of time you need them? Thank you for your suggestion, I am inclined to give it a try.

I will have the rented ones until August 1st. I figure I can always rent again, or purchase if I decide the text is something I will use in the future. I did purchase some, however, that I am positive I will reference once I begin my career (ANA ones on ethics and policy, as well as Pathophysiology).
