Anyone applying to FAMU's school of nursing for the fall 2013 semester right now?
Hi I'm currently attending Bc where I'm trying to finish up my pre-reqs for Famu's nursing program for fall 2015 I know its a bit far off. But I do have some questions for people who are currently in the program and who have previously applied.
1 What was the application process like?
2 Do I need an essay? ( I saw it somewhere but I'm not sure if its true or not or what about)
3 Did you have to go to an interview?
4 Did you have time to get housing? (I live 6 hours away so I want to be prepared)
5 What was your gpa like? (if you don't mind me asking)
6 Also what is the tuition like?
I'm so sorry if this is a bit much. It's just that I want to get into their program soo bad! And I want to be super prepared!
@taeway94, I just started the in August.. Class of Spring 2015!!! I think I can help with your questions :)
1) The application process is long and complex, so it's good that you're starting early; you can find it online. You'll need 2 letters of recommendation from previous professors, 1 professional reference, an essay (answering specific questions found on application), a full physical performed the same month as the application deadline, 100% completion of pre-req's (summer classes will work), an official transcript in the app packet, and a pile of other things regarding immunizations.. Oh, and you have to be prepared to pay $550.00 for uniforms upon acceptance
2) yes, the essay info is on the application
3) yes, there is an interview about 6 weeks before the program start date
4) I'm a local, so housing wasn't an issue, but FAMU SON will not let you know you made it in until about 2-3 weeks before start date.. (I know a couple girls who put down apt deposits before knowing for sure if they were accepted or not)so be prepared.
5) My GPA was a 3.16, but I think my interview and essay helped me a ton!
6)Tuition for 1st semester 15 credit hours was around $2700.00.. the website will tell you that tuition costs are only around $147.00/credit hour for in state, but in the fine print there's a $38.00 "differential fee" per credit hour too.. just FYI..
Let me know if you have any other questions :) Good luck, and watch those grades!
@ChrystalAD That information was very helpful I fee a bit more un-surprised in a sense lol but I do have a little more questions.
I'm applying for the fall of 2015 also I will be enrolled that summer 2015 finishing up like 3 of last my pre-reqs. I'm wondering if that will affect me applying in anyway since my application would be sent off long before that summer.
Also what was the interview like. Was it nerve wrecking at all??
And how is the program going for you so far?
Good :) Glad I can help! The program's going great so far.. during the first couple weeks, it was really overwhelming because we cover so much content every single day.. But, as it goes on, I'm starting to see cross-over materials in different classes.. like we're covering the same content in different ways, and it's all webbed together.
Anyways, no, the summer semester will not be an issue for you during the application process. I did the same thing with a class over last summer and it won't be a problem. They don't let ANYONE know if they made it in until the end of summer semester.
