Fall 2009 - Where is everyone applying?

Published

I have seen many people posting lately that they will be applying for Fall 2009 admission. I thought it might be cool to post where everyone is planning on applying so we can support each other and maybe get to know who we might be going to school with or at least get to know our competition ;) I have always thought it was really nice to see all of the support people get here on this site. :redbeathe

I am looking at applying to TCU, Baylor, Kaiser, Northeastern, Old Dominion, and Medical University of South Carolina. I don't know if I will apply to all of them or not. Does anyone have any input on applying to this many schools or should I narrow it down? Wish me luck!!!

Hey Lovegasrn,

I read someone's post and they said they applied to 10 different schools, I wouldnt suggest that, eventhough he got in to the 2nd school. First it is expensive (app fee's, then traveling to the interviews) if you have $50/app x10, then tickets to fly, then accomodations, hey go for it. I just think its impractical. Second, there might be interview overlaps  then what do you do.

I applied to three schools, accepted to my first choice, Samuel Merritt in CA. But prior to my acceptance, I had two interviews one week after the other. One in florida, then CA. So its hectic, and I applied to only three. Imagine if you applied to more. It would be insane!!!!!

My advice is to pick three programs you think is a good match for you. Focus on those programs and be confident once you get the interview. There is a fit for each person and each school.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

If you go back to the 2nd post in this thread, you can find where I am the one that applied to 10 schools. Is it insane? Absolutely not. If you are one that has a 4.0 GPA and really good GRE, there is no reason to apply to that many schools. But, if you have a 3.46 (like me) and a 1030 GRE and your bound and determined to do whatever it takes to be a CRNA as soon as possible, it is legitamate. Applying to as many schools as possible just speeds up the whole process. Yeah, I did spend about $700 overall for applying to all of those schools. But, if I spent $700 on 10 schools, and I graduate earlier than I would if I had only applied to 3 schools, How long will it take me to make up for that $700 as a practicing CRNA? It would take about 7 hours worth of sleeping patients. Make your decision as far as the number of schools you want to apply to. But don't criticize someone else just because their plan isn't congruent with yours!!

NIMBEX,

Criticism was not what I was going for. I simply stated that it was my opinion...not that I am saying you are crazy, but, if I, emphasis on the I, did that, I would go insane....my opinion...DIDNT mean to offend...I was saying its not my style...and my gpa was not greater than yours...so easy mang...no need for hostilities. I was determined. Determined as you were. I just chose a different way of applying....its all a matter of opinion.

NMB IVP-

I totally hear you about wanting to get in and applying to as many schools as you can, currently there are about 6 or 7 that I am looking at seriously but sometimes wonder if I should add a couple more to that. I don't want to have to wait an extra year to start applying again. Anyways, I wanted to ask you about the personal statements part of the application. Some schools are pretty specific in what they want you to address. Did you find a good way to approach this without having to do several versions of it or do I just need to suck it up and get going on all 7 of them? Thanks

4 of the schools that I applied to required a "Goal Statement" "Statement of Purpose" or whatever else you want to call it. The first one that I did was about 750 words. There weren't any clear directions as to how to do it or what they were looking for. It was pretty simple to complete. I did, however, put alot of thought into it. The other 3 schools the required a goal statement had specific criteria that they were wanting. I just altered my original by adding to it. I didn't take anything away though. When I applied to University of North Florida, they required 300-350 words (I think). I doubled that. I was determined that I wasn't taking anything away from my initial statement. Every piece of information that I put in there was vital. What good did it do? I will never no. I got an interview to each of those schools, but I didn't accept the interview because I got in close to home. One last piece of advice: Make sure that your letter is flawless as far as grammar, spelling, and punctuation. One of the schools that I applied to warned me that my letter would be critiqued based on content and grammar. I hope this helps.

I have an interview in July for Spring 2009 University of South Carolina, and have applied to Medical College of Georgia for Fall 2009 and will apply for MUSC in Charleston for Fall 2009. If I get accepted to USC then that's where I am going!
