Fall UT-HSC Accelerated Program

Published

Hello,

I have been lurking on this board for a while. i was waiting to post until i heard from one of my choices. i got the call about my acceptance to the UT accelerated program. can anyone who has gone through it offer some pointers and advice on avoiding pitfalls of failure? I know what the offical line to expected is, what i was hoping to hear was what other's perspectives are.

Hi Horus,

We will be classmates soon. Congratulations on your acceptance!

I am going to be with you guys!

That's great Vivitar! Congratulations! I wonder how many students will be in our class?

hey congrats guys!

yeah, they picked 40 of you guys, and dont worry, all 18 of us who are graduating in May will be meeting with you all at the end of next month and will give you all the HONEST advice and heads up that you need. We are a talkative group so prepare to get more advice than you anticipated. Plus, we will be selling our books to you guys cheaper than the book store, so I would suggest to just relax and have as much fun as possible now, because believe me when I say you hit the floor RUNNING in the BACC-2 program! Oh yeah, and make sure you have some money saved up so you wont stress yourselves about income! I hope you all have made (or are making) plans about living as close to the med center as possible because parking (AND traffic AND gas prices) is TERRIBLE!!!

hey UT_Bacc2_07,

you said all 18 of you are going to meet with us. how many were there to start with? without sounding forward, do you mind if i asked what happened to the others? also, i was reading a thread about PDAs. would you consider a PDA and the appropriate software a worthwhile investment for reference tool during clinicals?

thanks

Hi Horus,

What is a PDA?

there are two general types: the Palm OS based ones and the Windows based ones. you can buy the software such as the drug guides, manuals of laboratory and dignostic tests et al and load them. This way instead of carrying several books around, you have them in a hand-held computer for reference. other programs use them, i am planning on getting one for this program.

Good Luck guys! Maybe they didn't have as many people entering in their class a year ago like you guys have which would account for the low graduation #. Sounds like stressful fun!

Hey!

We did start off with 20, but one lady quit the first day of orientation. Then another person dropped down to the 2 year program because she was trying to have a baby and had a lot of personal things going on. Yeah, the program requires a PDA but just for clinicals. But truthfully, a lot of us regret buying the PDA's because the hardware and software was expensive and you could very well do without it. I used free software from the internet and bought my PDA from a guy off craigslist.com.

Congratulations guys! Just one step closer to being a RN! I am part of the 07 graduating Bacc2 class and excited for all of you! Be prepared to study and work hard. It will be a difficult journey, but not impossible!
