Has everyone else in their APN programs started the semester, yet? My first day is Thurday - I actually am looking forward to getting back to campus (it gets me a much-needed break from my kids).

I just wanted to wish all of you good luck.

This is my last semester of just doing in-class work. Next semester, the fun begins with clinicals. Anyone else starting clinicals now or next semester? Keep me posted!

Hi there!!!

My classes started last week. I am taking the diagnostic and assessment for APNs. I begin clinicals Sept 6. Im excited. One, I am actually beginning to feel like Im in NP school, two, I get to buy new "dressy" clothes for clinicals. All I have in my closet is scrubs and jeans. The school said for us to wear dress clothes with a lab coat. Makes us look "professional" since we will be the primary care provider. This semester is only 45 hrs of clinicals. Next semester is 1 day a week. But at least Im starting them!!! :monkeydance:

Good luck in your class!!!!!!!

Hi guys. I started my MSN/NP program on august 16th. I'm taking advanced pathophysiology, theory/research I and intro to APN practice. I'm enjoying what I'm learning, but it is sooooooo much reading!!! I want to make sure I am doing a good job and am really trying to read all the required readings, but geez! I don't know how everyone else is doing it-because a lot of the people in my classes have children. I give them a lot of credit because it's just me, my husband, cats, and house...well and I work too. But anyhow, how do you all manage to keep up with your readings and papers and still find the time to exercise, eat right, etc? Because now that i'm training to be an NP, I find that I value the importance of staying healthy even more than before. Anyhow, good luck to everyone else. :)

LOL! I have two small children (almost 2 yrs and almost 4 yrs), so I have to do work around nap time and bedtime. Let's just say that I don't get much sleep! Some days they entertain each other very well, so I sit and read while they play. On weekends, my hubby will take them out to the playground so I can be left alone for a little.

As far as eating right and exercising, I do the best I can. Mostly, I find myself nibbling throughout the day while on the computer doing papers. I also make sure that I stick to my 45 min walk with the dog at night time. Right now, I am not working (well, I am - as a full-time mom) so that helps out a great deal with time management. Good luck to you!

Hi Cardio! It's going by fast, isn't it?

I think that my "roles" class is going to be great....only problem I am having is that I STILL do not have a preceptor!!! The individual that agreed to do it previously has bailed...saying that she had another student that she was precepting from another school that she "forgot about" when agreeing to take me on?!?!? and I have 120 hours to do this semester!

I am waiting to hear from someone else that I have contacted locally, but this is certainly not a good way to start the semester!

Just wanted to check in and see how everyone was doing.

I began my clinicals. Needless to say, I feel confident and scared at the same time........... lol. I have correctly diagnosed several things, but when it comes down to "so boss, what you gonna put them on?" I freeze. My preceptor has a habit of handing me a chart, says go see them, come back, tell me what ya got. When I do, he then goes and sees the pt himself, agrees or disagrees with me, then asks me what meds.... tests.... etc. Hes great, dont get me wrong, I love it, but I come home, and wander through my books again wondering what Im going to encounter next.

Cardiac issues, dont have a problem with them (im a cards nurse)..... otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis, phlebitis, broke arms....... puncture wounds... depression........ Im like whoa... let me think.

He has also asked me at least 4 times a day every day that I have been with him, what im gonna do when I get out. I dont know yet!!! lol

Hows everyone else doing?????????

I am taking my LAST theory and research class this semester !! I am sooooo excited to start Advanced Assessment next semester.

I am just taking one class a semester and working part-time...which leaves me time for a A LIFE. I now have time to work out, take care of my home and most importantly not tell DD "not now, Mommy has to study!"
