Fall risk

Just wanted some opinions....what are your policies on toileting patients/residents that are alert and oriented, need assistance and not deemed a fall risk by the facility? Do you stay with the pt while toileting or leave and give them privacy and come back for them?

Specializes in LTC, Med/Surg.
We only have to stay with them if they have a chair alarm. Otherwise they know to ring when they're done and we'll help them get off the toilet.

Ditto to that. Truly independent residents are left alone, but those at risk for falls need to be assisted/supervised.

sorry, was having trouble posting and put this up to test. It was giving me a wierd admin error message but it's working now. Never mind :)

If they are alert and trustworthy we can leave them on the toilet alone and pull the call light if they have an alarm we have to stay within arms reach of them.. Independent people USUALY take themselves

depends on whether that pt can be safe alone... very controversial... safety vs privacy

how about those who reassure you that they are fine and will pull alarm but you can clearly see that they need someone to stay with them? what takes priority? safety or privacy?
