Hey Everyone,

I'm applying to nurse practitioner programs for Fall 2012. Anyone else out there? Maybe we can encourage each other during the process. I'm applying to:

University of Arizona DNP/FNP

UAB FNP

USA DNP/ENP and MSN/ENP

Hi everyone! I am interested in talking to others who may have applied for FNP school or are applying for fall 2012. I am pretty discouraged. I have been an RN for 7 years with my ASN. I recently finished up my BSN so I could go to FNP school. I applied for an RN-MSN program first and didn't get admitted so I just did a regular RN-BSN program. THen I applied for 's program. However, they required the GRE's which I didn't do so well on--which is why I was not accepted.

My GPA is about 3.8 and I have 7 years of nursing experience but I'm afraid to apply anywhere again because its so much work and money and then to find out you didn't even have a chance! The other problem is, the letters of recommendation. I feel HORRIBLE to keep asking the same people to keep writing me letters. Everyone has already written me letters 2 different times. I am looking for a distance program but am willing to travel if I need to.

I would like to find a school that has a high acceptance rate and I would still be able to get into either fall of 2012 or spring 2013. Any ideas for me?

Thanks!

Apply to University of South Alabama and University of Alabama Birmingham. They are accepting Spring applications now because the deadline for Fall has passed. I don't know how hard it is to get in, but they won't require the GRE. I was accepted to USA with a 3.3 overall GPA and 8 years nursing experience. Good luck :)

Hello Everyone,

Congrats to all those who got admitted into the fall 2012 program!! I just completed my ABSN at MGH, and I am taking my NCLEX in July, and I really would love to start the Fall 2012 NP program. Don't know if they would consider pending RN license though. I found some programs that are still accepting applications, but my other confusion is the difference between some of the NP programs. What I do know is I would like to work in the hospital setting and run a clinic, so I don't know if FNP would give me that choice. I am open to any feedback from those who are fully conversant with the different NP programs, and any advise as to if I would stand a chance applying without an RN license.

In the meantime, I am awaiting decision from University of Pennsylvania, I applied earlier for FNP while I was rounding off with my last semester. Is there anyone out there who has heard from them. Good luck to all those who are still awaiting results.

Marinoh, Good luck with your goals. I think FNP has a broad scope of practice, so you should be able to do those things. Usually the education is focused on primary care, but you should be able to do whatever you like after certification. I'm not sure about the RN license. They may accept you provisionally until you have a license number.

I already received a decision form UPenn (didn't get in) so that bodes well for you if you are still waiting. I got an email that directed me to go back to my online application. The decision letter was attached. So keep an eye on that. Did you interview with them?

Hi NJprisonrn,

Thank you so much for replying to me. And am so sorry to hear you did not get into U Penn, that is so scary. I am yet to receive any email from them, the last time I received one was on Mar 14th acknowledging that they had received all pending documents and that the average review time is 4-6wks. I have not received any interview email either. So, I really don't know what is going on for now, maybe I would email of call sometimes next week.

So did you apply to other schools? If so best of luck with them. I also intend to apply to NYU (Adult primary care) and also FNP at MGH and LIU.

Marinoh, I got my decision a few weeks ago. Did you check your online application? Does it still say pending? If so, you're still in the running! One thing that might be an issue is that March 1st was the application deadline. Maybe that's just for full time. I would email them or call.

I may apply to other schools. There are many in this area. UMDNJ is a possibility since it's so close to me. We shall see. I have to admit I'm a little numb from the rejection. I have a sweet GPA, awards, community service, you name it. Not sure what the school was looking for in their applicants. I may reapply for next time since they were my top choice.

Best of luck to us all!

Hi NJprisonrn,

I understand how it can feel not getting into your top choice of school, but don't let that weigh you down so much. I know it can be very depressing at times. Honestly, I have no idea what this schools really look out for in an applicant, I always put my application out there and I just roll with whatever comes. I received 3 rejection letters for the ABSN Jan last year, only to receive 3 acceptance afterward, and all 3 came with a merit scholarship. So sometimes, disappointment from one school can be a blessing in disguise with others.

I think you should go ahead and apply to other schools, why not consider NYU and Columbia, since you live in NJ. I used to live in NYC, but moved down to Boston last year for the ABSN, so am going to apply to most NY programs. I really want to be in a program by Fall, blc I felt I have wasted so much time in my life, that I cant afford to waste one semester again.

I just checked my online application, and it says Application in Review. I will just hang in there till I hear from them. So are you a practicing RN, as most pple applying for NP are. BTW, did you also apply for FNP at Upenn. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the very best.

Hi! I was recently accepted into the BSN to DNP program at UT Memphis for fall 2012 admission into the Family Nurse Practitioner program. Just wanted to reach out to anyone else planning to attend in the fall. Thought it would be great to meet some of my classmates and have someone else's support as we prepare for school!! Let me hear from you! Also, if you have attended/are attending please share your experiences. Thanks!!

I just found out today I was accepted to and northeastern for family-pmhnp!

gxsr and driven1,

Congrats!!

Hi guys,

I got accepted into Delta State University's FNP program; and I also got accepted into Alcorn State University's FNP program for the fall. I've decided to go to Delta State.

Arizona State University's BSN-DNP program for FNP, it feels kind of surreal getting accepted. But also, the price of tuition is surreal -_- hehe.
