Hey everybody. I'm not sure if it's too early but I'm making this page for anybody who is applying to the nursing program at Lonestar College for the Fall of 2019. Looks like Montgomery, Cyfair, and North Harris have applications from Jan 7-April 12. Good luck to everyone!

Yes I took the Hesi again and still have time to retake it, but I think ill just stick with my score. I will be applying with a 7.48, I hope its good enough for NH. How about you?

I had to do the same thing! ? it’s so frustrating bc we spent all that money to end up not getting accepted. I’m planning to retake the HESI soon to bump up my score to get me in somewhere. Does anyone happen to know where NH and CF does their clinicals?

Finally! Another transition applicant! Welcome, jesikah!! Have you submitted your application for North Harris yet? If so, how was your score?

My only option is to take it this summer in order to have it done before the program (if accepted), along with pharmacology. I don’t want to be super overwhelmed but I feel like I’d be overwhelmed either way if I waited to take it during the program.
So first off, take pharmacology online. It is exponentially easier than doing it in person. I have heard that from countless people who took it in person, that they had to treat it like a heavy science class. Let me tell you that as a practicing nurse, it shouldn't be that difficult. That's just the honest to goodness truth. I took it online and the professor that taught it from Kingwood was a DELIGHT. I devoted, maybe, 2-3 hours a week to that class. I took it concurrently with AP1 and didn't struggle at all. Finished with A's in both.
As for your question about the hybrid Micro class, it too can be done. In Spring 2016 I was applying to the KW transition program and the only way I could do it was to take AP2 and Micro at the same time. So I did. I took AP2 at the campus and did the hybrid Micro course. At the time the only professor offering the hybrid was Steve Anaya out at Tomball. He was not well favored on ratemyprofessor, but it was my only choice. Yes, it was difficult taking two science courses at the same time, but if I can do that, I guarantee you can manage Summer Micro with pharm. Of course, Summer is going to be more intense because of the compressed schedule, but its still doable. It all comes down to time management and prioritization. I finished with an A in AP2 and a B in Micro and I know if I had applied myself better with the Micro course, I could have gotten an A there too. And that was taking them both at the same time.
And you are correct, you will be doing yourself a favor to take it before the program. You do not, do not, do not want to be taking a heavy science course in the middle of nursing school. In nursing school, learning nursing should be your one and only focus. You will be stressed enough. Trust me. God help you if you have tests that land on the same day. You don't want to have to spend 6 hours studying for a cardiac test, then try to shut that off and switch over to spending another 6 hours studying for a test on viruses.
And as I said before, Dr. Anaya is not well favored on RMP, but I would actually recommend him. He is a stickler for certain things, but his hybrid class is about as straight forward as it gets. It's basically "here is your review. Fill it out. Study it. Here are the correct answers. Study them. Here is your test. It looks like your review."

I’ve heard the same about online pharmacology being much easier. I’ve also heard the same about Dr. Anaya as well, people were actually talking about him in my class the other day (about how much they couldn’t stand him ?). I have actually found that most professors that have bad reviews on Rate My Professor turn out to be some of my favorites, so I will probably take him. Thank you so much!!!
