Fall 2014 city tech nursing?

Hi, I'm currently in my third semester in City tech for the ASN. I have a few questions and hopefully answers for you. Are you currently enrolled in city tech and are you taking your pre reqs there? For starters, City tech have information sessions for the nursing program, you can probably find the flyers in the building, and it is highly recommended you go(that it might even be a requirement actually).

Also in terms of pre reqs where did you get this list from? From what I remember it was Eng, Math, Psych, and A+P 1 (dont know about your phys), and see whether the course level you are taking actually corresponds with the one they require. Definitely go to the Namm building, first floor (not ground floor) and talk to the advisement people. They have a specific adviser that they will probably have you talk to. She is in charge of the Unclassified Health majors, and she will tell you what you need for the program.

The old entrance exam was Kaplan but they switched to the TEAs exam, and in terms of credit transfers I would talk to registrar office/or admissions (dont remember which). But its pretty safe to say that they will require you to bring in transcripts as proof that you actually attended those school and received credit. Whether they allow the credit transfer is another matter though. Good luck and I hope I was able to help you~!

Hello, just to add to the previous poster, you may want to visit the Nursing Department yourself, it is located in the 5th Floor Pearl Building (the building where you take your BIO 2 lab in).

Although the current information is not up to date with the current semester, I know you can look at the application to see what are the current requirements. (As mentioned above they are: MAT 1275, Anatomy & Physiology 1 , Psychology 101/Child Psychology (you need to take Psych 101 in order to take Child Psych, and English 101)

They will take transfer credits pertinent to your degree, however I agree with SNurseKylam you must first see a counselor.

I am pretty sure the deadline for Fall 2014 application is near if not already past, since the volume of application has gone through the roof.

To my knowledge, (which can be wrong) You must schedule your TEAS as soon as possible and only when your grades are up and within the range the department is looking for can you submit your application.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask them here, I believe you have to have a set number of posts on this site before you can email somebody privately.

i'm currently enrolled in City Tech. I'm probably gonna get a B in Math and an A in anatomy .. do you think I should drop my math class and retake it for the A? a stupid mistake cost me 15% of my grade :/

I know that they ask for a 65 and up, so what was the average ati score of people getting accepted last semester ? And congratulations on your acceptance, thank you:yes:

I do not remember the average but I will tell you that city tech only requires you to get above a certain score in each category. Basically getting that score means you passed the test and they really only care that you passed. If you failed they won't look at your application, if you passed they will then look at your gpa. They don't care how much you passed it by just as long as you passed, so gpa is really the deciding factor. I suggest you go to a nursing information session at city tech because they do have out a paper that tells you what score they you want you to get in each category.

Okay I have a A- in a&p B in mat1275, As in child psych, and B+ in ENG 101 I just barely passed the teas with a 65 the program wants 65 an up. What are my chances of getting in the program from a 1 to 10 help me please

Quick question does your GPA get a boost on the scale if you've taken a higher class for example I took child psych and psych 101 but gotten an A- in child psych does my GPA go up .2 on the scale????

No, unless the higher class taken is calculus. Its called a "weighted grade" and will only be factored in if the class taken was a harder class than required, so to speak. Child psych in place of psych 101 is a higher class, but not necessarily challenging enough to be weighted. In that case the nursing office will replace lets say your psych grade for your child psych because you did better in it, but it won't be weighted or add to your gpa.

This is from the nursing book: "When a student has received a “C” or better on more than one introductory course but has not received a “D” or “F” in an introductory course, the student may replace only one of the introductory course grades with the grade of the next level course to raise their G.P.A. (ex. ENG 1121 forENG 1101; BIO 2312 for BIO 2311; PSY 2301 for PSY 1101; or MAT 1375 or higher or MAT 1272 for

MAT 1275). Students with a higher level of Math (MAT 1375 or higher) will have their grade weighted."

Okay thanx a lot great advise on more thing if you have a 3.4 and passed the teas what are your chances of getting in the program from a 1 to 10 from your experience

KT3 answered your second question better than I could've ever done, I will try to answer your first question. However please keep in mind that I did not take the TEAS and that there has been a lot of faculty change in the associates program since I started.

Your grades don't look bad, however the volume of applications have gone through the roof since I began. I don't know if they have finally plateaued now that everybody knows nobody is hiring and that nursing is not recession-proof. I don't know if they count the TEAS in their decision of choosing nursing students once you passed. It was my understanding that the TEAS was only there determine the candidates that would have their applications looked at, after that it was purely GPA. (I think I may be wrong)

I barely made it into the program myself and my grades were similar to yours but slightly lower.( I am positive that if I had delayed handing in my application until the following semester in order to bring up my grades I would not have gotten into the program.)

What have the counselors told you? They should have a better sense than any of us.

I honestly feel like the volume of applications have gone down. I cannot give you any number on that scale because I honestly don't know what your GPA is and it all depends on the volume of applicants and how good they are. Some years the pool of applicants have lower than usual GPA's, other times nobody below 3.5 have a chance. The site's PowerPoint says the lowest cutoff recently was 3.3.

I know it seems like I've answered you in a run around but that's the best answer I can give you. Don't get discouraged.
