i failed my nclex 2x now. i am an emotional wreck and have basically given up. thinking that i dont even really want to be a nurse anymore, which is awful because i truly do love doing it. my job is holding my position as an RN at the moment and just having me work as a secretary until i pass...but i need to pass this next time. for the 1st one i didnt do kaplan, for the 2nd i did just online stuff, and most recently i have taken the in the class portion of kaplan. i am open to any advice that anyone may have or any study guides/cheat sheets.
the first test i failed at 75 ?'s, the second test i failed at 210 ?'s.
im located in milwaukee if anyone else is studying or anything like that..
A book or books I would recommend would be: NCLEX-RN Questions & Answers Made Incredibly Easy!, NCLEX-RN Review Made Incredibly Easy!, and KAPLAN. I was forced to take the KAPLAN class after graduation or my school would not give me my BSN degree. (My school has a 99% first pass rate for NCLEX). Just try to do the online/computer questions and strategies. Don't stress. Remember process of elimination (there are always 2 questions that don't belong and the other 2 that are right, but which is the best right answer.) Pick apart the questions and answers. Look for what they are asking. Do Not over study!!!!
The Nursing Made Incredibly Easy books are the greatest books ever made. They make everything easier to understand. I used these books for all of my nursing classes (more than the class texts!).
Then, the day before you are to take the test, RELAX!!!! Do not study, do not do any more questions, don't even think about it. Just take some time to relax, watch some movies, go out somewhere, whatever you need to do to not think about it.
I did only take it one time, so I don't know exactly what you are going through. But, when I took it, I was the first person at the testing center, the first one to start the test, and the last one to leave after taking the test. I had to take the whole 265 questions!!!!! I thought for sure I had failed because I didn't feel like I knew anything that was on my test. The majority of the questions I had, were all drug related or trauma related questions. And, the drug related questions were all drugs I had never even heard of! So, trying to memorize anything does no good. No questions are specific! Good Luck!!
im doing basically kaplan, and i also have saunders too. im just totally burnt out and need some motivation to actually study again :-(
Hi murphyal, I am doing the Saunders right now but I think it would be good to study with someone who is in the same boat. I too have failed (more than 1x, 2x, 3x...) I am in the Racine area but would be willing to work something out to have a study buddy Hope to hear from you soon!!
I have also failed NCLEX 3 times! I am desperate!!! This test has taken a toll on my life...I'm so ashamed! Anyway, I studied Saunders, Mosby, and Sylvia Rayfield religiously!!! Approx. 200 questions per day and mostly I poured my spirit out to God that I pass on the 3rd attempt!! I want to be a Nurse so bad and I feel so lost. I failed 180 on first attempt, 253 second attemp and 75 third attempt. I feel like I'm going backwards instead of forwards! This time I will take the Kaplan Review Course and stick only with Saunders. Let me know what you think and If you believe in the power of God and Prayer please pray for me that God will grant me the desires of my Heart...TO PASS BOARDS on my 4th attempt!! I will re-test again in January. I will be praying for all of you as well...GOD BLESS!
