Failed NCLEX 3x...Any advice?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello,

I am new here and in need of any words of encouragement and advice. I just found out I failed the NCLEX-RN for the 3rd time and I just don't know what to do anymore. I put a lot of time into studying as well as did A LOT of questions. I felt very confident going into the exam this time but now I just don't know where to start again. I tried Feuer before the second time and mainly used Kaplan strategy book and questions this time. I have worked so hard to get to this point but just can't seem to pass the test. I am so humiliated to return to work as a nurse tech when everyone was waiting for me to pass to start as an RN.

As far as study tips, does anyone have any successful ones to share? Any views on Suzanne's plan and NCSBN online review? Please help :o

I just wanted to say that I too have just failed the NCLEX. I took it for a 2nd time Oct 23rd. I had done with Kaplan review course and another review course my school had offered. I feel like I am in the same boat as all of you. When I found out that I had failed, I was humiliated and felt like such a failure. So many people at work were "counting" on me to pass. Everyone said they were praying for me and knew that I would pass this time. When I went to the pearsonvue website and saw the word "fail," I honestly didnt know what to do. I felt like my world around me was caving in.

Now, I feel like God has done this for a reason. I am not sure of the reason, but I hope to find out someday. I feel like we can make it through this. I have talked with a lady at the Sylvan Learning Center, which I thought was typically a place children went for help, but its not. She said that many adults have trouble taking this test. I am meeting with her this week. She sounded very helpful! She said that she gets a lot of nurses who come through her doors, and its not the content we are lacking, its the ability to understand what the question is really asking us.

I was thinking of trying the Suzanne Plan. Has anyone else tried it? It seems like it would be very helpful. Any advice?

My friend did the NCSBN program and she passed her first time, so I was thinking of looking into that as well.

Also, I heard if you failed the NCLEX-RN three times that you have to go back to school, or take some class? Is this true and what kind of class?

Hang in there, and God Bless!

Calleamm,

I have take the NCLEX twice, and after reading your post, I thought... THAT'S ME...

My thoughts exactly. We will get through this. Do not despair. I would be interested in what they say to you at the Sylvan Center. Can you PM me with some info. THANKS...

Also... What state are you in? I know in FLORIDA if you take it three times and do not pass you have to take a remedial class through the state, and then can take it again. NOT EVERY STATE is like that. Georgia for one is different... You can test every ninety days and I believe there is no limit. Also, you don't have to take the remedial class... AND... compared to FL, the fee is only $40.00 for the Georgia Board of Nursing, and in FL it is $120.00...

I have a couple of friends that have taken the NCLEX here in FL twice, and one is going through GBON now, and the other friend will try once more in FL, and then if NOT successful (SHE WILL BE), she will sign up in GA rather than do remedial class...

I am interested in doing that, more because of the $$$ difference... THIS IS GETTING EXPENSIVE. lol

take care, and good luck! God will take care of us. We will do this!

Hay lets not give up!! I took nclex 3x and it appears to me that we went down the same road. I study saunders the frist time I took nclex, with near passing in all catagories. for the 2nd and 3rd time I study with Kaplan, and lets just say my results did not reflect what i know. At this point I needed an outlet (all nurses) so I listened to the forms advise and I am considering suanne plan. My advise to you is read the success stories on the forms and pray to god to give us the strengh for this journey to come. when I read the stories on the form it really gives me hope . My friend take some time off from studying and lets go back together and conquer nclex. I'm still waiting for my ATT, but when it comes I'll hit the books again (suanne plans). Just know you are not alone. when this is all over it would have been worth it. god bless you and Keep me posted. Chrisjoy

well said!!

I know one co-worker of mine who passed on her 4th time, and every time she almost passed.

She said that the kaplan book 2007-2008 version really helped her a lot. (I went ahead and bought it--- I will let everyone know once I passed my test if that was helpful)

WOW AIR HEAD? I Think thats so " not nice " to say about some one. what if some one called you air head or some other name.

"the stone that the builder rejected has become the chief corner stone"

I guess she showed you she was no airhead and passed her exam.

you don't know me, and what I've been thru with that "airhead" woman. She was not a very nice person to me, or any of our other classmates.

I was making a point that in school she was not a very bright person, and she passed..... if she can pass, then anyone else can.

Thanks to everyone for their encouraging words. I will keep my head up! I am getting through this week with relaxation and lots of prayer. I know that God will provide the best strategies and that He will not leave me. I know may sound awful but.. I also went back to work (this is my last week because I devoting all my time to studying), and I heard many stories of NCLEX failures and it really made me realize that I truly was not alone. Once again, thank you all and BEST OF LUCK! :)

Someone aslo suggested using Kaplan course for strategy? Any thoughts on that? Is it worth it?

Cheer up, from what I've been hearing from veteran nurses, "some of our best nurses have had to retest...", "don't allow this test to define you as a nurse...". I agree that it does break your confidence, I'm going for the 3rd time on Nov 28. I am just starting to study with HURST Review Services (Online) it is strictly content, if you can get pass the southern dialect - she's comical though which helps me stay awake, I've also signed up with NCSBN for 5 weeks which is boring as heck, but I use the quizzes. My problem is getting motivated to study again. I have about four weeks to prepare and feel like I'm unfamiliar with some content. Hurst is helping (when I do sign on)! Good luck.

To me, that Kaplan book is really good so far. It teaches you how to break down the question really well and gives you 2 practice tests. I am waiting to do those tests the week before test, and of course read it a few times before I do the test.

Kaplan course is very good. They are big on priority and delegation, which that is how the nclex is, the class is divided into sections just like the nclex. management of care, physiological integrity....etc. check it out

Suzannes plan. I passed in 78 questions the 2nd time around.

I to am taking the NCLEX for the fifth and LAST time, I am from Fl and yes, had to do the remedial before I could apply again . Just got my ATT and I and doing Suzanne's plan and will not take it again until I follow her plan to the letter. I know it sounds funny but I feel it does work.I was studying harder and not smarter until now. Yes, it has cost a small fortune to finally get to this point, But everyone says there was a reason, and as long as I PASS I hope to fulfill it. The BEST of luck to all.:balloons:

PS-And after the remedial you are allowed to retake three more times and then it is back to remedial again, NO THANKS:smilecoffeeIlovecof
