Failed NCLEX twice need advice

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hello everyone,

This is my first post. I've heard about this website since my second semester of nursing school. I am looking for any advice since I have just failed my second attempt on NCLEX. Here is a short background about me.

I graduated from a nursing program in May 2016. I took NCLEX the first time in September and failed at 76 questions. I felt devastated to know that I failed at only 76 questions. I will be honest and say that I did not prepare well for my first attempt. I took a break because I was so depressed. I got myself together and studied so hard for my second attempt. I've used HURST review, all kaplan qbank questions, questions from uworld, and PDA book from LaCharity. I just found out yesterday morning that I have failed again for the second time. I ran out of time at 230 questions. I am on the edge of just giving up because I DONT KNOW how to prepare myself for NCLEX. I feel so ashamed of myself because most of the class I graduated with have all passed. I will also add that I have never been a good test taker. I have been struggling with anxiety and panic attacks for almost 4 years. I went to see a doctor 2 years ago for my anxiety and she did not want to prescribe me anything and told me I was just fine. I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Yes, doing Uworld qbank by systems for the most part made a difference for me, because several questions were about the same topic which showed up on NCLEX.

Even though the questions were not on NCLEX, I was able to recognize the topics and answers.

My notes from the rationales were better organized, and I was able to remember pharm like never before.

My biggest advice is to take a diagnostic test and determine where your weaknesses are. Once you've identified them, zero in on them and see if you can make improvements in those departments. These are probably the areas that are dragging you down on the NCLEX and if you can expose yourself so you have more of a solid foundation in that particular subject, you'll be in a better position to do well on your NCLEX on your third time.

I am so sorry to hear that you have failed. I know exactly how it feels to fail not only once, but twice. Just think, you made it through nursing school, you've done the hard part! This test can't hurt you and I know it's an important test, but it is doable! I failed twice going all the way to 265 questions, both times! and thought I would have to take it a millions times before passing. However, I passed the third time getting 265 questions again (ended up being the last one in my class to pass). What helped me the most was NCSBN question bank and the hurst review. But most importantly, getting my anxiety under control. I had it so bad! Try to learn how to do breathing exercises to get your anxiety under control because that will only cloud your mind. I believe that is how I passed. Never say you can't! Put reminders next to your study station saying that you WILL pass! A positive mindset is always key.

You shouldn't be ashamed or doubting yourself, you made it though nursing school! That is beyond tough!! Everyone is different, what learning style works best for you? For me, the more times I saw or listened to it the more I remembered it. So I done some review videos (NRSNG.com) and took my own notes on them. I done nclex questions every day (nclex mastery app) and took notes on the rationales that I either got wrong or wasn't very familiar with, I also read the 38 page study guide that floats around on here (it's really good)...after I done all this I read my nktes out loud and recorded myself on my phone (sounds silly I know). Every day I would read only my notebook full of notes, the study guide, listen to my notes once or twice, and do some questions. Repetiveness was what worked for me. In the beginning I tried using too many resources to study with and realized that it overwhelmed me. Anxiety could be a major part of your problem too. It's so easy to get in your own head with things like this and convince yourself your a failure before you've even failed. Research some techniques to help you and always think positive. You can do this!!! You are smart!!! Lots of people couldn't even get into nursing school and even more couldn't make it through it! Good luck to you!!

Just want to encourage you and never give up! I was out of school for 8 years- yes 8, & passed the nclex with saunders comprehensive review book & Uworld. I can't tell you how much Uworld helped me. I had a ton of sata questions on this nclex. This was my 3rd attempt at taking this test. Don't give up. I will say though before I went in to test, I prayed and asked God to be there for me and to keep me calm. I kid you not I went in there and was like I got this- wasn't shaking, panicking or on the verge of crying like my other two times. I went in there thinking if it's HIS will he will help me pass. I firmly believe that having a good mindset and telling myself that I got this and I can do it helped. Good luck! 💕
