i failed the nclex 3 times and i am loosing hope on passing.
the first time i had 165 questions ... 1 above the passing standard
3 near the passing standard
2 below the passing standard
the second time around i had 265 questions ... 7 near the passing standard
1 below the passing standard
the third time i had 265 questions, as well, but the results haven't come in the mail yet. but i had ALOT of SATA questions ... more than the first two and i thought i had passed but that wasn't the case.
ive look at numerous posts of inspiration about how people that were in the same situation as me have pushed through. i was wondering if any of those people would give me some advice as how you have passed.
i don't want to take the test and fail again. it feels like a burdening weight on me that isn't going to go away until i pass the test.

I know how you feel I failed the first time and felt like a complete failure and I was bummed out for a long time but if you made it through nursing school you can definitely make it through the nclex! What I did to pass is I invested in these three things 1.Saunders book 2. Online Hurst Review 3. iPhone NCLEX apps
I made a calendar and dedicated a few hours a day (Mon-Friday) to reading and studying. The Hurst Review is really neat because it made learning somewhat fun so it sticks with you. As for the NCLEX apps this was convenient during times I couldn't really prop out my big ol Saunders book like during traffic, waiting at the doctors office etc. this is what I did and passed the second time so its not the end of the world, you just have to really dedicate time. Good luck!

Study every moment you get. I use my phone to study away from my house any spare moment I get. I stopped using text books and starting using my phone months ago. Let me know if you want a few specific suggestions

Consider taking a refresher course even if it isn't mandatory in your state. Look in to ATI courses and also see if you can get techniques to deal with test anxiety. I would also contact your school and see what they suggest. Re: SATA they r a ****** but just study the important procedures inside and out . Good luck to you!

I was thinking maybe you could get with someone from your program and perhaps do a group study a well. They may be able to assist with what you are weak in and vice versa then study apart to see if you see a change for the better with your practice exams.

What is your school's average nclex passing rate? It could be your school didn't focus on some of the content that nclex does. I am taking the Kaplan review and they cover a lot of material my school excluded

I understand your pain, I failed NCLEX the first time, what worked for me the second time was the Hurst Review. It made everything so simple in a way that i can understand, i only studied hurst material, I also made alot of flash cards that i would look at any chance i got. i can honestly say about 80% of the questions i got, i was able to answer using the info provided by Hurst. Good luck in the future and never give up.

I failed my nclex the first time and just signed up for Hurst as well. Did you do practice questions form outside sources or just Hurst? Also did you feel at the end of Hurst you could recall all info exactly? how many days did you take the hurst course over?
Vee and Hopkinson it sounds like you both have used Hurst, and others ATI or Kaplan. Which one should students choose? Is one better than the other?[/quote']I haven't used Kaplan but I like Hurst, it doesn't go too much in depth but it covers the basics. I used Saunders book along with Hurst and that helped me a whole lot

I used Kaplan the first time, the thing about it, is that they focus more on strategies to answer questions. Now it is a good class if you know your content without a doubt, but for me i needed a refresher so the second time i did Hurst and i left that class feeling very confident. As for which one is better, I would say they are about the same, its just that they each cater to different needs you may have. So if you are really good with your content then do Kaplan or if you need some help then do Hurst and buy the kaplan book. Just remember this, all the strategies in the world can't help you if you don't know the topics.
