Failed NCLEX - 1st attempt

Published

Hi everyone,

I've been a long time lurker and decided it was time to sign up and post.

I took my NCLEX last week and paid the small fee to see my results. It was absolutely heart breaking to see the word 'failed'.

I was stopped at 220 questions, and I had 40 SATA. Most my questions were about medications, and teaching (staff, not patients). I also saw a lot of maturnity, peds.

I took the Kaplan course, but I clearly just didnt work for me.

I am coming to you all to see if you have any advice on studying for the second time? I just don't know where to even start. In NY we have to wait 45 days to take it again so I'd like to come up with a study plan, any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

What are you below passing areas?

How did you trust the first time; review of questions and rationales, then if not understanding the rationale, look for content?

The issue may not necessarily the source of the review, but how one approaches the NCLEX itself: understanding the four concepts of becoming a competent, entry-level nurse:

1. Safe, effective care;

2.Health promotion;

3.Physiological Integrity;

4.Psychosocial integrity

Will determine WHAT the question is asking you; if you are having issues and are near or below passing; start with what stumps you in applying the questions-review questions and rationales; if you still don't understand the rationales, THEN review content for better understanding. If SATA and alternative format is an issue, then review strategies for understanding SATA, and alternate format, review rationales, THEN go to the content...understand where I am going with this?

Try also preparing for the exam by questions only; pay attention to percentage of questions correct-the higher your percentages, the increased chances of passing the NCLEX.

Before taking another exam, please take a step back and look at what is preventing you from choosing the best answer.

Im right there with you just took mine yesterday did the PVT but knew i failed already...ive cried and cried and my problem is i dont want to do it again...

I did the PVT right when I got into my car so I knew too, but waited the 48hrs to check online as well. It's the worst feeling ever :(
