O.k guys, i know this sounds crazy but i failed my RN exams recently and now badly in need of cash for many things including re-registering in a class this time e.g KAPLAN before takingb the RN again, so my questions is this: can i try the PN test, on the bases that it may be a bit easier, start making some money and also start working in the hospital getting some experience before retaking the RN in the future?. i already spoke with my Board of nursing and they said i can do that.
Also could you guys kindly tell me what areas i need to concentrate on for the LPN exams so as not to cross-over?. I already know i will be taking the RN again so don't advice me to re-take the RN now, i'm going to have to prepare in a whole different way before re-taking the RN cos i realised i have forgotten a few things due to a break in my nursing education to respond to a family problem, i however manage to finish but realised i have to go way back and polish up. Waiting for your responses and thank you for writing.

They both are equally hard the test definitely makes sure you know your stuff. I took my LPN and I thought oh my God no way I passed and I did. I took the RN boards and failed but they are not like the test you took in school its so far above that. You can do it you went to school to become a RN just try to focus and get back in the game. God wouldn't bring you 2 it if he couldn't get you through it! Good Luck and think positive!

Each test is different and you still need money to pass. I personally would continue with RN and look at Suzanne's plan only needs 4th edition Saunders and is free.

How long ago did you take the PN exam, did you had a similar situation to mine?. I know you metioned they are both hard but what is the main difference. I am so much afraid to try and fail the RN so i may be less tense if atleast i have a PN license in my hands before going back for the RN. hear from you soon.

i'm also planning to take the pn exam after the rn exam since competition is tough here in california due to nurse overload and the country is in recession so people prefer cheaper labor that can perform a certain scope both rn and pn can.
my brother took the pn exam after he passed the rn exam because of the same reason and he passed it too. he told me that pn exam is very different to the rn exam due to the scope of practice since pn's job is more limited and you might tend to assume a certain rn's job is possible to be performed by the pn. he also told me they focus more on psych since lvn and lpt has the same exam.
nclex-pn is harder for him maybe because we graduated from the philippines and we don't have lvn or 2 yr. rn so he had a hard time adjusting on what the lvn do.

Be careful if working as LPN and have a RN as well you are generally held accountable as RN
oh hello silverdragon! i know having many licenses is a double edge sword, it can help me as it can be an asset or hurt me but that risk is i'm willing to take than being unemployed for a long time (in the nursing field) and my skills becomes duller.
as a hopeful soon to be entry level nurse, i need something to use as an asset to get hired easily. i need more than one license so i can be more flexible on a job open than a RN position. maybe i can give up one license after i gain enough experience to be a "super nurse". =)
They both are hard its not easy but you did make it through nursing school so you can and will pass your boards it's all about how you approach it. I have been an LPN for 4yrs. You can do it you have to have faith in yourself.
