Course as in entire degree, or specific courses?

Remedial course as in nurse refresher class around 120 hours classroom, clinical lab and 120 hours clinical. Sometimes you need to secure your own clinical site. & preceptor. If you fail to pass after refresher class in some states, then you need to repeat your nursing education (like in Canada) or find another career. Most states do not permit graduates of RN programs to sit the NCLEX-PN as consolation. Many who cannot pass NCLEX-RN cannot pass NCLEX-PN either.

The only reason that the College might grant a fourth attempt is if you can substantiate a serious illness or trauma during your study period. Otherwise, three attempts is the standard.

You need to speak with the College directly.

i was actually dealing with deaths in the family just before my test.

so am hoping i can write again.

Thanks for all the responses

Good luck Vano! From previous threads on the same topic (what to do after 3 attempts), there has been very few people who were able to have a 4th attempt. One person had their 3rd exam "null/voided" and was given another chance to write it, but technically it was their 4th time sitting in the exam. They had reasons regarding suffering from anxiety and other factors that the College accepted to allow them to write again.

Just be prepared for the College to say that if you felt unprepared or not in the right state of mind to take the exam, you shouldn't have sat down that day since they do allow you to reschedule another time to write. Once you sit down and write the test, they count it....so someone couldn't leave half way and have it not counted.

Just in case, they may ask for official documents or references. Explain yourself fully when writing to the College and ask what are all your options. They are the best source for this so I would call them directly. You may have to call various times since you might get different answers.

Good luck again.

Like caffeinepostat says above, the college will likely say you shouldn't have written. You knew the day of the exam that you were dealing with the loss of loved ones, and thus were not in the right state of mind. Therefore, you should have not written. Had you done that, you would still have one attempt left. They give you several opportunities on testing day to walk away without the attempt counting. It's only once you break the seal on that test that it's too late.

I am sorry you lost loved ones, and that you have failed three times, but realistically, if you knew it was your last attempt, the college will likely say that you should have made absolutely certain that you were in the best possible frame of mind before attempting it.

Call them, certainly, but just be prepared that they will not just roll over and accept an excuse of deaths in the family as a valid reason to grant a 4th attempt, unless the deaths occurred the day of the exam, and even then, they will likely be asking why you didn't just defer your last attempt.

I'm not trying to be mean, just realistic. Again, I am sorry for what you are going through as I am sure it must be very difficult. Best of luck in talking to your college.

Yes, my post was also not meant to be mean or condescending. I have also gone through a family death right before an exam in nursing school, it was my very last exam too. I empathize for you Vano. My post was not to explain that it won't be possible for you to write again but a heads up that it may be really difficult.... but just to be fully prepared to present to the College your situation.

As I previously mentioned, it had worked for very few students but their cases are examples that it is possible to get a 4th attempt.

All the best to you in the future!

I remember our Dean said that chances for 2nd time test takers to pass the exam is less than 50%. So for those who failed the 1st time, I think they should take their time to review their notes/books and answer as many practice questions as they can. If they can postpone their next exam to further review their course lectures, I think they should.
