Failed AANP what Next?

Published

Hello Guys, I have been reading these posts and i have found them to be very helpful. This is where i run when i am low to see whether maybe someone else has gone thru what i have gone thru. To make the story short. after taking time to read from others, I promised myself that after taking my exam, whatever outcome, I will do a post so that someone else can get encouraged as i did. unfortunately, I didn't know that this is the kind of post am gonna post but i got to accept it the way it is.

Anyway, Today i took AANP and Failed. I had done a very good preparation, I did pass the AANP predictor exam with 68%, APEA predictor exam with 73%. After scoring low on AANP, I decided to buy 10 more AANP style exams from EXAm Edge and did 8/10 7/8 i got >70%. I also went thru all the APEA questions both Assessment and pt management. That was not enough,i went thru Fitzgerald certification and practice prep about 50% of the question. at this time,I felt very ready.

I went to the examination room and took the exam, Honestly, the exam felt very easy to me but after submission and getting the word : DID NOT PASS, made me feel like someone shock me with a high voltage electricity. I was speech less.

Now i am again to square zero. Any help??anyone who has ever gone thru the same and passed a AANC or passed AANP for the second time. Kindly advise. Excuse my writing/typos, I am shaking as i write this post.

So how did you do on the boards?

YES! I PASSED the AANP on April 25, 2016. I postponed the ANCC. I am over joyed and for right now... I just want to relax!!! The AANP has already issued my wallet card. My state accepts the wallet card for licensing! My application is already in the mail.

Taglas

Congratulations! I am taking it in a few weeks. Did you do any certification reviews? I did Hollier. Do you recommend Fitzgerald review?

Usually people who pass all the practice exams and fail the real thing either have test anxiety or just had a bad day.

That does suck and I feel for you.

At least you aren't one of those people who failed all the practice exams coming on here going "OMG I FAILED WTH I WUZ SO REDDY"

Thank you! So here is what I did to be successful.

If you are still completing your practicum PAY ATTENTION! I answered quite a few questions based on what I diagnosed and or treated during my practicum rotation.

I suggest studying for at least 3-6 months prior to whatever exam you choose to take. I say this because in the end you won't have to cram. The first three months, I was all over the place. I did not have a structured study plan.

I finished the FNP program on March 9, 2016 and applied for both exams that day. Shortly after, I completed an ANCC review that was included in my program – The presenter held a DNP-FNP –BC, NP-C. The presenter had actually written certification questions for the ANCC and AANP. Although I had been studying for several months, this review gave me a blue print.

A week before the cert exams, I completed the MUST TAKE online webinar with Maria Leik. This was a live webinar review course! I was able to stay in my pajamas with my homemade coffee during this four-day review. Maria does an EXCELLENT job with covering Health promotion, the systems, OB, PEDS, and a separate session for the non-clinical topics. In addition, Maria answers questions daily at the end of each review class. Students who had previously taken the exams and failed posed several questions. I was able to gather additional information by listening to the other student's concerns and or questions.

Study Tools:

Leik 4th edition – READ the entire book and complete all the questions in the back of the book. Pay very close attention to the exam tips. In addition, purchase the FNP Q&A app- complete all the questions.

ANCC 4th edition review books Volumes I and II – Complete all questions

ANCC Family Nurse Practitioner Review Course Workbook and slides- provided by the ANCC review course.

AANP practice exam from the AANP website- I actually saw 1 question on my exam from the practice exam. I guess someone forgot to retire that one (smile). Scored an 86 %. two days before I tested.

ANCC practice exams on the ANA website. There is also a new Family Nurse Practitioner IQ” module for purchase on the ANA-Knowledge Center site. The module has questions specific to the domains one is required to pass on the actual exam.

Complete the free questions on the ANCC website that pertain to Geriatrics, Adult, and FNP.

Exam edge- 10 ANCC exams and 2 AANP exams- complete all the exams

APEA predictor examines – Believe it or not, I scored a 65 % on this particular exam the day before I took the AANP. The questions were not so similar to the exam.

Barkley DRT- Questions were similar to the exam- I scored an 89 % the day before the exam.

I will likely sit for the ANCC in a few weeks. Just enjoying the moment right now! The AANP has already issued my wallet card! My state actually accepts the wallet card for licensing! My application is in the mail!

Good Luck AND BLESSINGS!!

Good luck!

Hi. I really hope you have re-taken and passed. I too failed AANP this year (twice by 7 points) and was shocked/embarrassed. I had a good GPA, did review courses, been reading non-stop, and have done a lot of questions. I've applied for ANCC and am hoping for better results this time (my job depends on it). If anybody has advice on ANCC, I'll take it.

If you haven't retaken: Nerves and anxiety are terrible. If you need medication, don't be ashamed. Remember that you have passed school, are prepared, and have passed a certification exam before (hello N-CLEX). And you aren't alone, others have failed too and it just makes us that much smarter (from all this excess studying!)

I failed AANP too and feel exactly the same

here is my email

let's plan to study

thanks, i am going to buy the 4th edition of leik book, i hv the 2nd edition

would you like to study together, please email me [email protected]

Let me start by say I took the aanp exam for the 2nd time today and passed. I had looked to this board after not passing the first time for some advice. So here is what i did to study for the test.

1. I was sent barkley review from the school, I only studied this prior to taking my first exam and did not pass. I found the review to be very heavy on peds, and boring. There is a lot of good information in the book, and loved the way he gives you to remember murmurs which is important.

afternoon passing i signed up for

2. the apea review. I chose to go to the review to get away from kids and family so i would focus. I then studied her review book, listened to her CDs which I got from a friend, and used her area certification practice question book to practice. I did not do great at first with the questions however, i improved and looked up information i missed. This book helped me to learn how to take the question for what it is and not read into questions. I improved my test taking skills while learning with this book.

3. I took 3 apea exams and scored in the 70s on the exams.

4. I took the example test on the psi website which had a few similar questions on the actual exam. I scored an 80 on this test.

5. I also used the leike book. I feel this book really helped me focus on stuff that was not in the review book. This book also helped me understand information on topics i missed on test. I love the book. There are some miss prints in the book and she needs to come up with an updated book, but it has great information. I made sure to know all of her topics for the exam tips. on her site, she does have updates listed and practice questions. She also list a few topics to focus on which i saw on my exam.

6. I also downloaded fnp question apps on my phone. i liked the leike app the best.

7. I did one exam edge test, which predicted i would pass but did not like the exam so i did order any more.

I really hope this helps others who may feel lost. I know that I felt lost and very depressed after not passing the first time I took the exam. The second time i took the test, i went slower, read each question more than once and would pause and take a few deep breaths if I started to feel over whelmed.
