Try Henry Ford Hospital. I believe they offer externships too. Good luck!

Beaumont is a good one. That's where I work. You could also try any of the St.John hospitals. Detroit, Macomb, Riverview,etc....

Hi, I am just curious of what an externship was. Because I have been trained for 270 hours as a nursing assistant but did not get certified because it had cost a lot of money and I just found out that after your first clinical you could become a student nurse in a hospital, however, I would like to know if I could start now. I have applied to every hospital in Detroit and no one has contacted me yet! What should I do? Can you give some pointers?
I'm not positive that you can start an externship without the having the first semester of clinicals done. I do know that where I worked this summer, St. John Providence, they had a couple people just like you who took the nursing assistant class but did not get certified that were working as nursing assistants. So if you have not tried that hospital go for it, it's in southfeild and really nice. I hope this helped. Let me know if you have anymore questions and GOOD LUCK :)
Thanks for the advice! I have applied on-line several times to Providence but I think I am going to go up there in person and talk to someone in Human Resources because I have from a few people that they never even had any school training and got hired (one at Beaumont!) So I will try and I will let you know.
Also, was this just a summer job for you? Or did you find something else to do, and if so was it part-time of full time?

If you want to get into Beaumont apply online and then call HR. Try to find out the name of a recuiter for the position you applied for and keep calling them until they actually pick up the phone. When I applied there I had no contact from them until I actually talked to a recruiter on the phone. Once I talked to her, she set up an interview.
I would take any position at Beaumont! I love that hospital. It is so clean and the you can in and out of emergency so fast! They are so friendly, I would take any position at Beaumont. I was online all night yesterday applying for nursing assistant positions and Beaumont only had one nursing assistant position and I applied for it.
How do I go about finding the name of the recruiter? And how long should I wait before I call?
