Extension contract, less pay

Published

Hi guys,

I'm a traveller halfway through my first assignment. It's going well, I work in the ER of a small community hospital and the director and staff are all very happy with me. They asked me if I wanted to extend for another 3 months and I said yes. When I got the contract in my email today, the housing and meal stipend are for less than my current contract.

I am not going to work for less pay, and will contact my recruiter about this to get it addressed. If they don't offer me the same terms as my current contract I'm ready to seek another assignment.

My question to you all is, have you ever had this happen to you before upon reading an extension contract? If so, what did you do about it and how did it all turn out?

My recruiter warned me ahead of time that it might be a dollar or two less per hour, before even beginning to negotiate an extension. He got my permission ahead of time. He still ended up getting me the previous rate. I've always known ahead of time, even before the contract was emailed to me, what I would be getting. It sounds like a lack of recruiter communication. I'd call immediately, as it may simply be a typo. Usually it's not the stipend that changes, but the base rate.

No, i would never extended for a lower rate. Higher/equal rate or leave.....

I would not even work for the same unless it was already a crisis rate paying well beyond the normal. BUT NEVER LESS. I would move on if I were you.

Sequence: 1. Get the facility to renew. 2. Agree to stay. 3. NEGOTIATE THE CRAP OUTTA THAT CONTRACT......

Once the facility wants you, if the company doesn't renew your contract, they look bad. Remember, the contract is with your agency, not the facility. I have gotten as much as $8.00/hr. increase with $300 added to the subsistence allowance. You are very valuable so keep that in mind. Happy Hunting !
