I'm a new resident in Ontario and took the RPN exam. I'm waiting for my result but I wanted to know about the job opportunuties I need and the necessary information in order to work in the Operating Room. My background before is I'm an experienced operating room nurse for 4 years in my country. I have no idea if my experience before will be qualified here in Canada. For all RPNs who have an idea or any important advice pls share and help. Thanks in advance and looking forward for replies.

jeannette_dvo 16 Posts Jan 12, 2012 OR tech is like an RPN and where can I ask about the certificate? Is there any specific organization or agency? Or with the hrd of different hospitals?
Fiona59 8,343 Posts Has 18 years experience. Jan 12, 2012 PNs require a post grad course in OR procedures. After completing a written exam and clinical time in an OR, the certificate is issued. You need to check with your provincial college.Jobs are usually posted under OR Tech headings and state that the certificate is required.
dishes, BSN, RN 3,950 Posts Jan 12, 2012 Centennial college and Humber college have RPN operating room nursing certificate courses.

I also have read the post. Do you have any idea how long to get a certificate? or it will took 6 months? I'm planning to let my transcript be evaluated so that I would know if I will be qualified for an exemption or my previous study would qualify for equivalence.
dishes, BSN, RN 3,950 Posts Jan 15, 2012 Do you plan on asking the Humber and Centennial to evaluate your transcript to see if you qualify for exemption? I think and I may be wrong, that it may be cheaper and more feasible to take the required courses rather than try for an exemption, but it can't hurt to ask. It looks like it takes 6 months to complete the part time program through Centennial.

Yes, I plan to check whether an exemption will be the best option but if would take more than 6 months to be evaluated, I'd rather try my luck with other alternative. Thanks. :)
