what to expect on an interview...

Hi everyone,

I have an interview for a school nurse position early next week. My experience of 6 yrs has been in home health/hospice, but I would love the opportunity to work as a school nurse. Unfortunately, I do not have any pediatric experience, except that I was a volunteer with the Make A Wish foundation. I came to nursing later in life, and would relish the opportunity the job would provide. My question is, what should I expect during the interview with the principal? Would the fact that I don't have pediatric experience hurt me? What questions should I ask? I have a genuine desire to pursue this line of work, and want to put my best face forward at the interview. I know this is a lot to ask, but any and all suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,,

I just started as a school nurse in August of this year. I had interviews with the superindent and his assistant. We had more of a conversation than an interview. We discussed things like how I would handle the different personalities of each building (I have 4 schools). Talked about wellness programs and how involved I could be with our schools. We talked about how I deal with stressful situations, etc...

I had absolutely NO pediatric experience before starting this job (except for my own two kids).

Good luck and keep us posted :D

Search this forum for "interview" you will find a lot of advice/ info.

Aside from typical medical/ assessment questions. I was asked a lot of dealing with different personalities/ how to handle angry parents kind of stuff just like supernrse.

Don't mention the fact that you are lacking pediatric experience. They already know that from your resume, just don't mention it at all. Focus on your strengths, your experiences, your eagerness to learn & be involved in your district.

Good Luck!

I LOVE my job & will never go back to the hospital again.
