Excelsior

I was looking for some direction as far as an online nursing program is concerned. I'm currently an LPN. I want to further my education and have checked in to Excelsior's online program. I'm apprehensive about it all being online. I do have a full-time job and care for children outside of work so online would be the best option. I'm concerned about the hands-on opportunity that it lacks. I understand that I will have to do clinical time at one of their schools. I'm also concerned about it being a legitimate way to earn my degree. I need help. I don't have any options and do not want to be an LPN for the rest of time. Can anyone help me in the least bit?

TY in advance!

I went to Excelsior ten years ago when it was all test out, no online classes. But, I can say, as far as hands on clinical, the only thing RN's do that LPN's don't in most states is hang blood, some IV meds and IV push. People can say assessment also, but I did plenty of that as an LPN. I worked on a med-surg floor as an LPN in a hospital that had a nursing school. I would see LPN students who worked at the hospital do their clinicals in the evening and do the exact same thing they did all day at work. I didn't see the point in spending all that time doing clinicals when I was doing them by working as an LPN. Also, I've never had any problem in getting a job with my Excelsior degree. I say go for it.

Omg, I couldn't say it any better. I wish the board of nursing can see this.

I think you need to do some more reading — it's not clinical time, it's a clinical exam. The school is based on a competency model and the Clinical Performance in Nursing Exam (CPNE) is not set up to teach.
