Excelsior-North GA/Chattanooga, TN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

Hey folks. I'm sure hundreds of threads r/t Excelsior's LPN to RN transition are posted online, but I'd like to hear from recent grads/students in GA, esp N.GA close to the TN state line. I'm a LPN with a GA and TN license, have always worked in TN. College Network's sales rep stated that while I may not be able to obtain my GA license through their program, I can sit for the TN NCLEX without an issue. May be a stupid question, but I have a GA address, will the state of TN let me sit for their exam and bypass GA's NCLEX? I obtained my TN LPN license through endorsement. Also, would like to hear from Excelsior grads/students regarding their thoughts on the program....is it worth it? How is the clinical exam? What about job opportunities for Excelsior grads?....In advance, thanks for your time and feedback, it's much appreciated. :)

Specializes in ER, ICU.

Just call the state and ask them.

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

It's not TN's NCLEX nor GA's NCLEX -- it's one nationwide exam, and you can really take it anywhere that the education is recognized by the BON to which you apply. For example, Georgia EC grads used to take the NCLEX through Minnesota's BON without ever setting foot in Minnesota (just because MN is fast), then endorse into Georgia. And you can test at any Pearson VUE center in the U.S. once you get your ATT.

The clinical exam is tough, but doable. You have three chances to pass it. It is nerve-wracking, but it is what it is for a reason.

As far as jobs ... the market isn't good for any new grads right now. If you can stay where you are as an RN, you'd probably be better off! You do have an advantage in that you have experience as an LPN.

Welcome to allnurses, and good luck!!

STAY AWAY FROM COLLEGE NETWORK!! You don't need them to go through Excelsior. You can register and order any necessary books, content guides, etc... directly from the school.

I also have to add my advice to stay away from The College Network no matter what you do. If you want TCN study guides, buy them used on ebay for $15 to $30 apiece and save yourself money and aggravation.
