Hi, I am getting ready to start the LPN to RN program and am considering using RUE. Currently they have the "complete" package per module that consists of the workbook and a NEW book that they are just now starting to use. From my understanding, this new book is a compact version of the text book, but it is not the Quick Context Guide (which they tell me is/or includes the workbook).
Is there anyone that has just started and is using this "new" book that can give me some insight? -will be ok to use this book and not purchase a text book? Any advise please?

This is probably going to sound incredibly dumb but what is RUE? I am currently an LPN and I am going to South University Online for my Bachelor in Health Science but that is only because I do not have pre req's.. I would like to find another option because South is very very expensive. Can you give me a little info?

Rue is the name of one of the publishing companies that make a lot of money from unsuspecting would-be Excelsior College students. There are many, many threads and posts about the Excelsior program and the publishing companies in the distance learning forum as well as the forums for individual distance nursing programs. In short, no one has to purchase publishing company study materials. Excelsior College, like the other schools, has a website where you can find necessary info.

Hi,
Ive been a nurse for 16 years. I wouldadvise you to be extremely cautious of the Rue/Excelsior method. I tried it myself--wasted three years--and it cost me 10,000 dollars. This was about ten years ago. I am finally back in college now. I would not recommend this method to anyone.
Some things you should know:
1) Rue and Excelsior are totally seperate, Excelsior doesn't recommend them at all, and you can find what you need to know without purchasing Rue's modules. The modules ARE excellent and tell you exactly what you need to know to pass each exam. They are a lot of work though.
2)If you do this make sure you do your prerequisites first! Rue told me to do the nursing part first, and I did. Then Excelsior began phasing out and changing the courses. I lost all my credit. I would have had to pay again for new modules and tests. If I had done the prereqs they would have been good for 10 years and transferable to another college. The nursing is NOT transferable. If you dont complete it through Excelsior--you lose it.
3)When it comes down to the clinicals you have 3 days to test in an unfamiliar enviornment. Better make sure you are working in a highly skilled situation for a few months prior to the clinicals if you want to pass them.
4)Keep in mind a lot of community colleges are reasonably priced, and most offer online courses. Just check it out carefully.
Best of luck,
Aimee
Thank you all... i tried to use College Network before and they charged me thousands upon thousands of dollars and never even sent me any books or any information at all.. I hadn't heard a word from them in about a year and I thought maybe I didnt get approved or something.. Well now they call me constantly harrassing me for money and when I say I want to talk to someone who can tell me why I never got any services from them they just say nasty things like "learn how to pay your bills" and hang up on me.. I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER recommend college network.. They are AWFUL!!

Erika,
I am an ASN 2008 Excelsior graduate and I used Chancelors study guides. It is true that you don't have to use any study company -- Excelsior does have textbook references to use listed on their site. The advice I have is simple: Do your research. Know what you are getting into and YES, it is true that Excelsiors nursing classes do NOT transfer into any other program. That can be a little scarry. The final 3 day clinical (CPNE) is the most difficult test I have ever taken. There are some excellent posts to help you make your decision or at least know what you are getting into here on this site.
As a side note, I am now alomost a Family Nurse Practitioner (Frontier class 87 - Graduation 2013). My Excelsior education did well for me and allowed me to complete my education on my time table. State boards were no problem for me. The study skills I learned from them have served me well. It is not an easy decision to go the Excelsior way and not everyone makes it --- just make sure it is the right decision for YOU.

I graduated from Excelsior also using the information from Chancellor's. It is the best decision that I made. Not only did Chancellor's give me the books, but I also got a week long seminar at their facility to work on my skills. That seminar was EXACTLY like my 3 day clinical. It is not for everyone, but it was great for me. I have since graduated with an MSN and am teaching in a different ASN program. You just have to be disciplined. Good luck!

I just recently started with chancellor also. Low mnthly payment and the week long workshop to help u pass the clinicals is already included into my payment. I work with a few RNs who graduated thru excelsior after taking their core classes thru chancellor and they all have positive things to say abt the program.....
If you are still trying to find out info, please contact me, I may be able to help. I have some recent study guides I got through Chancellor's learning system and I am also looking at starting with RUE as they finance the exams and that is my main issue right now. If you have already started with RUE how is it? My email is [email protected]
Hey there :) I emailed you... I also wanted to let you know that I got an email from RUE today and they are offering 1 dollar down for a limited time.. I asked for more info so I will update you when I find out more! :)

hello,
I am new to allnurses I too am looking at Rue, i actully talked to a lady yesterday about the 1dollar down, they have actual online classes for the nursing classes, i have already taken Health Safety, Chronicity and got a C on both of them, Im thinking I need more of a class structure and Rue offers a structure program, Life Span 1 starts on june 18th, I hate to wait that long but I want a decent GPA! lol Im so confused as to whats the best route because it seems chancellors would be appropriate too! I would love to hear from anybody who has tried Rue's actual online 8 week classes, or any tips on how to study, i have already tried the textbook route through excelsior, need more of a guided way of studying! Thanks a bunch!

I am sorry to read this Erika. College Network has been good for me. I never have been spoken to rudely. I would be very upset if they were calling me about payment if I had never recieved any info! Did you try and contact them during the year you waited for info?
I know an Excelsior RN-BSN grad who used RUE. She had no complaints.
