  1. Hi, Ive been a nurse for 16 years. I wouldadvise you to be extremely cautious of the Rue/Excelsior method. I tried it myself--wasted three years--and it cost me 10,000 dollars. This was about ten years ago. I am finally back in college now. I would not recommend this method to anyone. Some things you should know: 1) Rue and Excelsior are totally seperate, Excelsior doesn't recommend them at all, and you can find what you need to know without purchasing Rue's modules. The modules ARE excellent and tell you exactly what you need to know to pass each exam. They are a lot of work though. 2)If you do this make sure you do your prerequisites first! Rue told me to do the nursing part first, and I did. Then Excelsior began phasing out and changing the courses. I lost all my credit. I would have had to pay again for new modules and tests. If I had done the prereqs they would have been good for 10 years and transferable to another college. The nursing is NOT transferable. If you dont complete it through Excelsior--you lose it. 3)When it comes down to the clinicals you have 3 days to test in an unfamiliar enviornment. Better make sure you are working in a highly skilled situation for a few months prior to the clinicals if you want to pass them. 4)Keep in mind a lot of community colleges are reasonably priced, and most offer online courses. Just check it out carefully. Best of luck, Aimee
