Excelsior LPN to A.S RN in four months, do-able?

Published

Looking for major advice on obtaining my A.S rn. I am currently an LPN and have been one to two years in Mass. I recently got laid off from a state correctional facility and decided it was opportunty to endeavour.

As of march 09 i signed up wit the college network ( a lot of controversy) , however during my investigation, i learnt that using the excelsior study guide and taking the eight ( classes and exams) and i believe one Nsg concept class, i should be able to take and pass my boards.

If this sounds right please kindly advice me.

Also can this be done within four months ( not having to work)?

????How many hrs of study a day is recommended?

I am using the txt bk suggestions from the excelsior study guides and answering the questions at end of ea chap.

What i s the best way for me to ennsure success, please any advice?

I am not currently working and have started the essentials of nursing care: Health and safety

What is CPNE? is it necessary to take classes like the essentials, chronicity, pharm ? or can i go straight to NC1,2,3,4 and whatever else?

i have been an lpn for two years, and am currently utilizing the txt bks from the EC study guides to prep for EC A.S RN & NCLEX.

I am currently umemployed and trying to accomplish this thing within the time frame of recieveing UI benefits and i have about 4months left of UI ( unemployment benefits)

Chyke,

Welcome aboard! I've been an lpn for less than 2 years. I started in June 09 as an lpn to RN with EC. I work full time at a medical clinic and thought it would be moving fast if I could do one course in 8 weeks. After taking the first test -Health Safety. I decided to take Chronicity 4 weeks later (instead of 8) and see if I could manage it. After taking Chronicity I decided to schedule exams every 2 weeks d/t I realized that I already knew 80% of the material so far from lpn school. Right now I have taken 4 nursing exams and have 3 A's and 1 B. I honestly can't believe I am moving this fast and working full time. All in all I need 11 courses and hope to do them all within a 6 month period.

I formulated my study plan from the post on this forum. My plan has been to use the EC study guides, studynotes101, Lisa Arends study notes, Saunders RN NClex Review, and my old lpn nursing books. I also purchase the 2 EC practice exams. I take the first one before I study and the second one the week before I take the exam. I average about 30-40 hours of study per exam.

I don't know if I can continue to do so well but am hopeful. The plan is to be finished with the nursing classes the first of October to qualify for the CPNE. While waiting for the date for that I have 3 Gen ed classes to take and I will probably do a 3-day seminar to prepare for the CPNE. If all goes well I hope to have the RN by Spring of 2010.

I feel like I wasted almost 2 months in the beginning figuring all this out. I wish I would have known so I could have started taking the exam 2 weeks apart right off the bat! I am amazed and excited . . . so glad I decided to do this! Dread the CPNE.

Hope this helps.

pebbles57 thankyou so very much :) as a matter of fact, i just read through three-four lines in your response to my plea and decided to thankyou right away in excitement. if i may say so, you have inspired me. i too have been doing quite a bit of reading and it seems like what i have covered so far , i have come across at some point during lpn school.

you work full time and are endeavouring to do this? amazing and congratulations on those exams already conquered and the ones that will b conquered :)

being that you are most current as far as recently taking some exams and currently attempting like i am preparing to, do you mind if i consult you in the future?
