Excelsior LPN to A.S RN in four months, do-able?

Looking for major advice on obtaining my A.S rn. I am currently an LPN and have been one to two years in Mass. I recently got laid off from a state correctional facility and decided it was opportunty to endeavour.

As of march 09 i signed up wit the college network ( a lot of controversy) , however during my investigation, i learnt that using the excelsior study guide and taking the eight ( classes and exams) and i believe one Nsg concept class, i should be able to take and pass my boards.

If this sounds right please kindly advice me.

Also can this be done within four months ( not having to work)?

????How many hrs of study a day is recommended?

I am using the txt bk suggestions from the excelsior study guides and answering the questions at end of ea chap.

What i s the best way for me to ennsure success, please any advice?

I am not currently working and have started the essentials of nursing care: Health and safety

What is CPNE? is it necessary to take classes like the essentials, chronicity, pharm ? or can i go straight to NC1,2,3,4 and whatever else?

i have been an lpn for two years, and am currently utilizing the txt bks from the EC study guides to prep for EC A.S RN & NCLEX.

I am currently umemployed and trying to accomplish this thing within the time frame of recieveing UI benefits and i have about 4months left of UI ( unemployment benefits)

You can get all of the tests done but you will then have a wait for the clinical exam. CPNE.

Thanks again to the RN with the beautiful smile. Your advice is very valuable and very much appreciated. I recently had another kind person explain that it took a friend of hers 8months and another friend 12 months to complete.

Chyke, are you under the old curriculum labeled nursing concepts or are you under the new, Health Differences and Life Span something or other? Anyways, old curriculum ends Sept. 31st and it will no longer be available.

chyke, EC's program took me exactly one year, one month, and one day. :) However, 7 months of that time was spent waiting for my clinical exam (CPNE) date! I finished all the nursing exams between June and October of 2007. I studied about three to four days each week.

thankyou so much erinp88 , for responding to my plea for help. i believe i am working with the essentials of nursing care: health differences. if i understand you correctly, the nursing concepts ( nc) is changing? or no longer used after sept 31st? will there be a new edition? i will definitely confirm, i believe i recall being told or read something to that effect. :)

The "nursing concepts" tests have been renamed and slightly reorganized. I'll upload a little comparison spreadsheet so you can see the differences -- so many of the older study materials still have the "nursing concepts" names, so this should help if you use anything that's from last year. If you're doing "Essentials of Nursing Care: Health Safety," you're doing the right stuff. :)

You are a blessing LunahR, and obviously smart, how did you complete them in 5months. I have been out of LPN school for about 2 years but as i read the stuff, its seems like nothing new. However i somewhat feel like i am going to be surprised by the " hiding tiger".

How many hours per day did you actually spend studying ( if u dont mind my asking). How did u study? Did u use the study guides from Excelsior website ( myEC )? Did u utilize the recommended txt bks from the study guides? and did u answer the questions at the end of each chapter?

I hope i iam not overwhelming you ( as a nurse, i doubt it) but i like to thread with caution. I really appreciate ur help . Did u read through the txt bk page by page or just breeze thru? How did u practice for the boards. How was the clinicals .

I just completed my ASN degree through Excelsior and it took me about 11 months. That's including 2 month wait time for CPNE. I am now playing the hurry and wait game to take boards in which can't happen soon enough! It is doable but you will have to do the new curriculum . They say the hardest test was Health diff 2 but it wasn't for me I made an A. I work a mini shift Sat and Sun 12 hrs and 8 on Mon so those other days were nose in the books. I saw one lady do it in about 4 months but I believe she was a DR in another country for whatever reason not recognized here. I used the recommended books by excelsior. It all depends on how much you put into it and if you are self disciplined!

So do you think ill be fine , if i read with the study guides and recommended txt bks ? so when u did urs, how many classes did u need as an LPN already cause my LPN experience was like NONE other in my life of academics
