Excelsior friendly hospitals in Dallas?

Published

I would like to know if any Excelsior graduates had or have any difficulty getting positions in the Dallas area hospitals. Are there hospitals that like Excelsior grads or are there hospitals that are downright hostile to Excelsior grads.

I am near completion of Excelsior's program (waiting for a CPNE date). I have attempted to get on as a nurse extern or PCT in some of the major hospitals - Presby, Methodist, Parkland, etc. THe nurse recruiters seem real receptive at first. When I mention that I will be graduating from Excelsior, all of a sudden a wall goes up. I don't even get a chance to fill them in on my background. Very frustrating. I was even blatantly lied to by a nurse recruiter at one of the big hospitals regarding their nurse extern program.

If anybody does know of a Excelsior friendly hospital I would be grateful if you could share this with me. If you know of any contacts, please PM me.

Any input is apreciated.

This is a comment that probably will not be of any help to you. When I was in LVN school in California, my nursing instructor warned us to stay away from Excelsior when obtaining our RN because they have a very bad reputation in the medical community. I asked her cordially to elaborate, but she said she could not say any more than that. She simply said, "Do not obtain your RN from Excelsior."

Good luck to you. I am sure you'll land a foot in the door somewhere, because I know of a few Excelsior grads who landed jobs.

Hi jrsyjo,

I am also from Dallas. I plan to take a excelsior ADN progam in the couple of months. But I think I may want to change my plan after reading your post here. Can you kindly tell me your recent status? I mean were you able to get a RN job in Texas after graduated?

Thanks

Not Dallas, but perhaps try JPS.

Not sure about Dallas, but I do know that Cook Children's no longer reimburses for Excelsior tuition. This makes me think that they are not necessarily Excelsior-friendly.

IMHO, any nursing instructor is going to discourage Excelsior, simply because they want you to attend their program/university.

Online education is NOT going away, so the medical community might as well get on the bandwagon.

Just my opinion...

It is my understaanding the Texas is Excelsior-friendly.

I suggest posting this in Distance Learning, where the Excelsior peeps (including me) hang.
