Excelsior College

Published

I applied to Excelsior College and was informed that they are looking at my state license to see if I qualify to take the distance learning nursing program. It has been a week since they received all of my information and I was told today that it would be another 3-4 weeks. Is this routine? I also asked about the acceptance of pre-reqs. The admissions counselor told me that they would have everything figured out before I pay the enrollment fee and sign papers, but I was also told by another counselor that you have to pay enrollment before finding out which credits they accept. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I am curious if many Excelsior graduates actually work in these federal institutions.

I know at least one recent EC grad who is an RN for the VA -- I think she's in South Dakota. She's on allnurses once in a while! Another friend of mine is in Georgia and has passed the CPNE and NCLEX, but still is working as an LPN due to the issues going on there now; she's looking into employment with the VA as well.

I can't see you NOT getting accepted to do the program! That would be crazy.

I passed the CPNE. I'm waiting on the NCLEX. ;)

I know, as Lunah said, that there are several EC grads working for the VA.

Sue,

I got a little confused with your posting! I thought you were taking the CPNE, but I realized after re-reading (and of course after posting that you were wishing luck to others!!). Thank you for your info. I would really like to complete a program from a distance, but I guess if I am not accepted I can complete the program in AZ (things have a way of working out). I guess I will just spend a lot of time flying back to SC to visit my hubby. Good luck on the NCLEX!

Lunah,

Thank you, it is nice to hear that the VA hires EC grads. I did my residency at the VA and still work there once in a great while and actually enjoy the patient population!
