Wooo hoooo, I passed my second Excelsior test today (barely), so Safety and Transitions are done.......now what? Do I call and apply or apply online??

One of the RN's I work with got his RN with Excelsior years ago and one of the Paramedics is getting close to being done with Excelsior, so he gave me like 6 binders full of stuff from TCN. He paid an ungodly amount of money for those things, I'll try to use them for the next test. I've only reviewed the EC study guides and taken the practice tests thus far and passed both tests first time out.

Which test should I take now? I don't believe I have to take Health differences as an LPN within the last 5 yrs, so that means 5 more tests.....cool.

I don't get it, are there classes you can take without paying the $1000?

You can take 2 nursing tests prior to officially enrolling, no classes, just study on your own, I just reviewed the free EC study guide this morning before the test and I registered and took Test A of the practice exam about 9am today and took the actual test at 1130am locally at PearsonVue. I believe the enrollment fee is $895, I guess I'll have to pay that now.

They say the remaining tests are very hard, but I have some free TCN study guides now and I still have all of my LPN books from school.

Good luck, it can be done, I've worked with a few RN's that did Excelsior.

Can you guide me to where you found what classes you could take before registration?

FYI, the enrollment fee has gone up to $975.

Im starting Excelsior and I need to take Micro and Life Span Psych how would I go about taking these two classes without being enrolled into Excelsior and where do you get your information and study material for each class from?

Ouch! Thanks for the tip. I'm so tired of prices going up, I bought a gallon of milk today for $4.09, yet I haven't had a raise in 3 years, because there is no inflation according to the govt.

Time to try to get some overtime at work to pay for the nearly $1000 for an enrollment fee, then the next test at $275.....ouch!

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but most of the classes can be taken locally, that's how I got my micro done. And as far as I've seen on EC website, it's only the nursing tests that you can't take without being enrolled.

The Life Span Psych, there are other places that you can take that test that is much cheaper than EC. I think there is a CLEP that's like $77.00 for the same thing.

Good luck, it's a long hard road with potholes along the way. I just received my BA in History in June 2011, with my commencement ceremony in Oct 2011......I took my first class towards that goal in Dec 1986 (yeah that's 25 yrs). I was career military during that time.

Tony, you personify the idea of "lifelong learning." :D Me too ... been schoolin' since graduating from HS in 1990! I did take a few years off in the middle (6 years), but for the most part I've been accumulating credits in a continuous line. Congrats on your BA, that is awesome!! :)

Yolanda, anything you take outside of Excelsior will have to be sent to Excelsior via official transcripts. Or if you take a CLEP test, you can have the results sent to EC. As far as materials, if you register for an account on EC's website, you can download exam content guides from their publications page; those guides detail the exam contents and the suggested study materials. Some people use other materials like studygroup101.com's notes.

Also, you can use CLEP for a number of non-nursing course: http://clep.collegeboard.org/started. I did the Human Growth and Development CLEP in place of Lifespan Dev Psych for EC -- less expensive!!

I paid my EC registration fee, it was only $740 with military discount (pleasant surprise).

I'm taking Reproductive health on Nov 9th and Chronicity on Dec 8th.........wish me luck!!

I'll let you know how I do.

P.S. I just got accepted into ETSU LPN to BSN program starting in Jan 2012......I just accepted the offer today, why?? In case I don't pass the CPNE and it's a BSN, so even if I pass the CPNE come this summer then I'll take my NCLEX and continue on with the ETSU program and graduate with my BSN. Another reason is that I plan on funding the BSN using my GI Bill benefits, which I'll use to fund my EC (currently ALL out of pocket). I'm getting way, way too old to have all of my eggs in only one basket, I've gotta pass either EC or the traditional program, I'll be 45 next month and I really have to to get my RN soon.

Hello!

I enrolled with EC in 2007. I see they have changed module titles..Does anyone know what the Nursing Concept 1, 2, 3, etc, modules are equivalant to ie; LS 1,2,3, health differences chronicity, etc?

Also, which outside study material did you use to prepare for CLEP's?
