Excelsior college LPN- RN

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

Hi everyone. So I am currently in my last semester of LPN school . I will be finished in December. I really would like to jump into an RN program right out of this program. I am really considering excelsior. Can anyone give me feedback?? Also, I took anatomy and phisiology 5 years ago exactly. For their standards will I have to retake ?? If so can I take them concurrently with the rn classes ?? TIA

If your A&P and Microbiology are more than 5 years old, you will have to retake them. They also have added the T.E.A.S test which must be passed prior to acceptance in the program. I haven't looked at the most recent nursing catalog so I can't say for sure that the A&P and Microbiology need to be complete prior to taking the nursing courses. There is a group on Facebook called Excelsior Nursing. They have pinned post on the top of their page. I believe that would answer most of your questions. I am personally very satified with Excelsior. Like many, I took a stab at traditional school but couldn't keep up with the pace. This program isn't for everyone but it is very doable.

No all pre-requisite courses must be finished before you can start the nursing classes.

TEAS is now required

you also must be actively working as an LPN and your employer must verify every 3 months. At least 200 hours per year.

Students enrolling in the Associate Degree in nursing program on or after January 1, 2016 are required to complete the following general education requirements: Written English, Sociology Core, Life Span Developmental Psychology and Mathematics prior to registering for any nursing theory series component (examination, course or nursing theory conference examination). The reason for this change is to support your success since these general education courses enhance the development of your nursing knowledge. This change is in addition to the existing prerequisites of Human Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology.

Well, keep in mind that California will not license you if your initial education was through Excelsior without additional education. Where you can get additional education I don't know.

If you're certain that you won't ever want to move to California, then feel free.

I would also look at community colleges with LPN and RN programs. A lot of them do have bridge programs. My community college had an LPN to RN program where the LPNs joined in the last year clinicals for RNs after a short bridge class. My CC even offered lecture components online but you had to go into the testing center to take the tests within a 3 day window.

I apologize if my reference to the FB Excelsior group offended you. Had it not been for ECs posts here on allnurses I would not have come across the group on FB. I only suggested it because there are daily responses to general questions on the group. í ½í±

My response has exactly zero to do with yours or Facebook. Our posts were posted close to each other as when I was posting there were not any other responses. I was responding with information from the source as the OP was mistaken that new grads are eligible for Excelsior LPN/medic to RN bridge program. Only currently working LPNs and medics are eligible. Plus ALL pre-requisites must now be completed before entering the nursing phase which was not the case a few years ago
