Excelsior for BSN Completion

Published

I am a career changer with CRNA as my eventual goal. I have 2 previous non-science bachelor's degrees, and will be getting my RN through an ADN program. The two CRNA programs I am interested in, Northeastern and Boston College, both require a BSN for admission. I would like to do the Excelsior BSN while I am working, as it is self-paced and I could conceivably complete it in a year. Has anyone who has attended/applied/and/or been accepted to a CRNA program completed their BSN with Excelsior? Was it an issue at all?

I work with two Nurse Practitioners who went from ADN, BSN (Excelsior) then on to Nurse Practioner School at Univeristy of Texas. No problems getting in. Excelsior publishes a handout with a list of grad schools that accept Excelsior students with no string attached. Hope that helps...

I have been accepted to CRNA school and have my ASN from Excelsior and my BSN through South Dakota State University's RN-Upward Mobility Program. Take a look at their BSN program as it is mostly interent based and I think it was easier than attempting my BSN through Excelsior.

i earned my BSN from Bowling Green State University ((Ohio)) -- which is now primarily internet based. i know during my anesthesia interivew the panels did give me positive feedback regarding my attendence of this local college. they, however, did not know that it is now internet based -- whether that would have swayed their opinions....who knows??

if you're concerned about how some anesthesia programs will view a degree from a 'virtual college,' then i'd suggest looking at all regional colleges/universities that offer internet based and/or accellerated programs. i'm constantly amazed at the number of nursing programs that offer these individualized programs!

good luck... keep us informed!
