  2. Hi all! I applied to -- 1) Univ. of Akron -- interviewed and accepted -- starting in June. 2) Univ. of Pitt. -- cancelled interview and w/d application after acceptance to Akron. 3) Case Western -- cancelled interview and w/d application after acceptance to Akron. I started taking graduate classes at the Univ. of Akron last fall...and have 5 core MSN courses already completed. Also -- this program is front-loaded and the clinical sites are about 15 minutes from my house! Good luck everyone! KrinklesRN
  3. hi there!! i graduated from an online BSN course (( at Bowling Green State University - in Ohio )), with clinicals near my home in Cleveland. the thing is...no where on any transcripts does it state it was an online course, and to be honest...i felt i was asked to do more...because it was an online program! long story short...it didn't hurt me. i was accepted to the university of akron's CRNA program ((on the first try)). best of luck! krinklesRN
  4. yeah...i deposited mine through the drive thru...and ended up with a 4 day hold on the check! thank goodness i had at least showered before heading to the bank! :chuckle getting deeper into debt in ohio....:uhoh21: krinklesRN
  5. i recently applied for and received a $30,000 loan from Sallie Mae ((tuition answer loan)). it is a credit based loan, is independent of 'financial need,' and is dispersed directly to you ((not to the school first)). hope that helps! krinkles RN
  6. yeah i agree...while the book is a good read...it's certainly not worth $90 ((no offense ms. bankert)). i got mine real cheap...less than on AANA...like $10 -- but buy it where you can find it! happy new year! krinklesRN
  7. i found 'watchful care -- a history of america's nurse anesthetists' ((isbn -- 0-8264-0510-x)) very informative! i knew the profession was well established...but had no idea just how it came to be. this book is becoming difficult to find ((as i think it's going out of print))...but certainly worth the read!! krinklesRN p.s. -- i found mine on www.half.com used ((and in great condition)), and might find it used on www.amazon.com
  8. GPA - BS in Nutrition - 3.12 BS in Nursing - 3.8 GRE - 1260 and 4.5 writing Experience - 6 yrs in Med/Surg, ((busy)) ER, ((20 bed large urban teaching facility)) SICU, and flight nursing Certs- ACLS, PALS, NALS/NRP, TNCC, BTLS, Peds BTLS, (NR)EMT-B, AND CCRN Other - unit preceptor ((within each unit)), and belong to AACN, ENA, and Sigma Theta Tau. Also had enrolled in two grad level ((stats and phys.)) classes. I think it's really important to project a confident image during your interview ((even if you are experincing serious 'flop sweat' :imbar )). Good luck and have a happy and safe new year!! ~ KrinklesRN ~
  9. i earned my BSN from Bowling Green State University ((Ohio)) -- which is now primarily internet based. i know during my anesthesia interivew the panels did give me positive feedback regarding my attendence of this local college. they, however, did not know that it is now internet based -- whether that would have swayed their opinions....who knows?? if you're concerned about how some anesthesia programs will view a degree from a 'virtual college,' then i'd suggest looking at all regional colleges/universities that offer internet based and/or accellerated programs. i'm constantly amazed at the number of nursing programs that offer these individualized programs! good luck... keep us informed! ~ krinkles RN ~
  10. i have to agree with pigtails. Not only can it take a few weeks to a couple of months to actually take the exam...but it takes up to 2 weeks just for the results to be sent to any school of your choosing! Not to mention...if you're unsatisfied with your score...you have time to take it again! krinklesRN
  11. i think the one thing that can make the MAT a real challenge is its focus on vocabulary. i ended up taking the GRE ((since i thought i'd fair better with some math...and some vocab/analogy))...but did study like crazy the vocab and analogy review. i used kaplan review books...and 'word smart for the GRE.' all of them improved my general vocab base...and utimately my strength within the analogy portion of the GRE. :) ~ krinklesRN ~
  12. nothing case western does is 'quick.' :chuckle i withdrew my application from case when i accepted a position at akron, but was told their interview process is aimed at finding a 'good fit' with their program 'ideal.' they ask no clinical questions, but focus on the 'hows and whys' of your pursuit of a CRNA program/education. they seem to be looking for assertive individuals, and tend to direct many of the interview questions at your 'perceived' weaknesses ((i.e. - lack of experience, standardized scores, and/or gpa)). IMHO... it would serve you well to really look at your application and experience...and develop strong/honest responses to any and all potential weak spots!! hope this helps... and good luck!!! :) krinklesRN
  13. hey all! i used/reviewed lippincott's book "pharmacology" 2nd edition ((isbn 0-7817-2413-9)) as cellular pharm review for my interview. this is a nicely written book...and is designed for perscriptive use by the medical/nurse practioner. ~~ i highly recommend it!!!! ~~ krinklesRN
  14. i got accepted into univ. of akron's program, and they made it quite clear that demonstrating a 'strong support system' was very important to them. they pride themselves on there zero percent attrition rate...and believe the candidate that doesn't have to work, isn't pregnant, and has started to complete the core MSN graduate courses...can give 120% of there time and energy to the program. IMHO -- if i were you... i wouldn't mention that my spouse/SO and i are applying together. krinklesRN
  15. yeah... i got the same letter from U of Pitt, too! there interview process does seem rather daunting!! krinklesRN
