I am a registered medical assistant planning to do Excesior Nursing Program. Do you know of any medical assistants who have been admitted to the program and would it help if I took the nursing one and nursing two classes before I applied for admission? I would love to hear from anyone else who has done this program. I already have a BA and don't need any general eds, so the only thing I need from them is the nursing courses. Also, has anyone used the Acadmey of Nursing site and was it worth the money, is it legitimate?
Thanks for any information you can give me.

CMA's are not allowed to enroll at Excelsior any longer.

From what I've heard, Melody is right--- I don't think CMAs are allowed in anymore. I had a friend who was a CMA but she also had a bunch of other courses under her belt, so she was admitted. That was a couple of years ago, though. This is unfortunate, as she (and many other CMAs I'm sure) had way more "nursing" experience than I did as an LPN. Too bad they can't take that into consideration.
I would give the Admissions dept. a call to make sure that this is correct. Maybe things have recently changed again.
And noooooooooooo, do not use Academy of Nursing. They are bad, bad news. BAD. I'm sure many people on this site would back me up on this one. If you do end up going through EC, go straight through them and don't use a publishing company. Study guides (content guides) are FREE from EC. Buy a few used texts and you're ready to roll.
Best of luck to you! Please let us know what admissions tells you.

Spazzy and Melody are right--Excelsior no longer allows medical assistants into their program. This is clearly stated on their web site at http://www.excelsiorcollege.edu Click on nursing then click on As and AAS in nursing and then click to the left on admission policy changes. Scroll down and it will tell you who can be accepted. It also says that medical assistants can no longer enter the program since September 2004. Hope this helps and do call them to make sure.

It is pretty much LPN's, Paramedics and military medics being currently admitted to Excelsior. It is unforntunant, lots of darn good cna's out there!
