OK, Please allow me to vent and ask a question about what it's like in your program.

Is it just me, or is it obvious to anyone else, that your instructors don't read the assignments they give to their class, then test on information that was not covered in the readings because they never looked in the book to see what they assigned the students? :stone

This has happened in my program more than once, with more than one instructor. Our first maternity exam so many topics were in the exam that were not assigned that they had to throw out 50% of the questions. :uhoh3: Then, I took an exam last night where the same thing happened. It was only a few questions, but still, the material was never assigned to us.

I don't have a problem taking a difficult test with difficult questions, but not if they don't tell us the right thing to study. And you can't fight with them and tell them that it wasn't covered in the syllabus or readings because they get defensive and tell you you are just lazy and a whiner :crying2:

Is it just me?

When I was taking anatomy our instructor would try different ways to test us. Instead of just pointing to a bone and asking what it was, he would take a random small bone and place it in a bag...you had to feel around the bag and identify the bone. You would only have 30 seconds to feel it. Thank goodness it was a scapula and not a bone from the hand or something crazy like that. This teacher's class started out with over 70 students and ended up with like 12 at the end of the semester!

Good god, what real world skill is he testing? To see if you can identify bones in a body bag? Yep, something we'll need to do all the time. Man, that's lame.

Sometimes instructors have been teaching this class so long, they forget what they did or did not lecture on. They will state they DID cover it in lecture, but no one in class heard it. So, it is on the test with no ideas as to where they pulled that information from! Needless to say, A's in our classes are a rare thing and seemed to come from good guessing, B's are doable if you study hard, and most people are getting C's or failing.

Perfect example of our situation right now, but you dare not say anything or you will be put down and told that you shouldn't expect the instructor to teach you everything! Hellllllloooooo! With books containg between 1500-2200 pages, it might help if you lead us in the right direction! :angryfire
